And we could have prevented their takeover, if not for the decades of chaos and tribal fighting the country descended into. But no, the policy was "how far away are they? It's not our business". That always works out so well.
So, do you believe the U.S. should be the world police? That everyone should just fall in line with what the politics of America?

You brought up Korea yesterday, were we involved solely to help the people of Korea? Or, was it a cold war action against Russia? And in a smaller part China?

Why does America have a standing Army? The founding fathers certainly didn't want that. In many ways it's to the detriment to Americans as it is to the people across the globe. And no, I'm not calling for the U.S. to be defenseless.

Actually, yes you are calling for the US to be defenseless if you oppose the US having a standing army. It also shows your complete ignorance of history.

But this gives me great insight into where your ridiculous foreign policy ideas come from. You live in a fantasy world and your ideas on the worth of the US military ("to the detriment to Americans as it is to the people across the globe.") are in line with the hard left socialists. If you're this divorced from fact, logic and reason, then there's no point in continuing to discuss this with you.

Really? I'm ignorant to history? Have you even read what our founding fathers said on the matter? Why do you believe the 2nd Amendment used the word "militia" and no mention of "military"? They believed in the power of the people, not the power of the government.

What, sir, is the use of a militia? It is to prevent the establishment of a standing army, the bane of liberty. …Whenever Governments mean to invade the rights and liberties of the people, they always attempt to destroy the militia, in order to raise an army upon their ruins.

And yet, we had a standing army at the time. The US has never not had an army. And when we've drawn down our armed forces to minimal levels, we wind up in situations like WWI and WWII where we take massive casualties in the beginning because our troops were armed with obsolete weapons, poorly trained, and poorly prepared. That's where you're ignorant of history - in the modern world, your ideas are untenable. Isolationism has only ever hurt this country, and isolationists always wrap themselves in an attitude of false intellectual superiority while spouting dangerous drivel.

Like I said, though, it's pointless to try to discuss it with you with the ideas you've expressed. You are beyond reasoning with. I'll see you in other threads but will not be responding to you here.

Did I ever say I was an isolationist? I just don't believe our "modern" government's narrative on helping the people of Ukraine. Although there was I time I was just like you, I have since dug into motives for actions our beloved government has taken in the past and present. So now I look at my younger self as indeed ignorant.

Lets see: Zel locked up all his political enemies, stomped on free speech, and doesn't allow religious freedom...among other things we who love 'democracy' value...but, by all means, look the other way, he's a 'good guy'...if by good guy, we mean totalitarian dictators who our government hails as a hero...

Uh-huh, we should love the upcoming nuke exchange...yea for uke...they won...the destruction of the world as we will temporarily know it, because if the 'blast' doesn't getcha, the radioactive fallout will...

The countdown is starting...now...you have just a bit longer to live and then 'kaput'...

Is the Dombas region no longer Ukraine? There are pro Russian Ukrainians as well as anti Russian Ukrainians. Now that's not to say they are equal in the amount of people, but that certainly doesn't make them united in fighting Russia.
The VAST majority are solidly united. There will always be a few naysayers, but to suggest Ukraine isn't united behimd preserving the ENTIRITY of Ukraine is just silly and sowing false illusions of discord that just don't exist.

Not exactly the whole truth... he locked up a few russian orthodox leaders who were going well beyond simply speaking out against the war, but facilitating or attempting to take action against the Ukraine. It it no different than when the US snuffs some mulah who is a terrorist.

I hope and pray that you are correct. Since you have been there, on the ground, I tend strongly to believe what you say about the Ukraine.

The reason I brought up Donbas is to the point of civil strife. Ukrainians have been fighting each other there for, I believe, 8 years before Russia invaded.

No group is perfect, and even those that support or oppose something do so do varying degrees... however it was truly amazing to see the level of displayed, overt, loud support for Ukraine and an idea and a nation that I saw there.

Clothing, graffiti, posters, people getting together to build camo nets, collecting food to send to the front, people volunteering to do all sorts of things... it blew my mind. Even death metal concerts (it was a awesome show) were held and all the proceeds went to support the зсу...

Most consider this simply an continuation of the 2014 invasion. russia took advantage of a Ukrainian revolution and strife, along with a week US foreign policy to facilitate a "rebellion" directly support by "little green men" in russian spetsnaz uniforms without markings... they were doing more than advising, they were shooting, fighting...

The history is very interesting. This didn't start in 2022, it started getting hot in 2014.

I'm not going to argue Russia's involvement, for many of those Ukrainians are pro Russia and depended on Russian support, but then again, The U.S. was also supporting the opposing side.

Many people believe American/ Russian animosity started after WWII bringing about the 'Cold War'. I know I was never taught in school about the 1917 invasion of American troops into Russia. I'm sure they still teach it in Russia though.

    Pardon: 1918
