The ATF was caught holding onto records for longer than 24 hours and filing them away once before. They got their hands slapped for it.

What records? They don't get any "records" from a firearm purchase.

They can also deny you for life based on any conviction for "domestic violence" even a misdemeanor. If the computer record of your conviction is not specific as to the charge - they may have thought it came under this provision.
