Guys, please stop trying to sneak in unauthorized commercial posts. We have rules about that. It's rude and an insult to our sponsors. It won't be tolerated.

The following tips can help you be more careful, prepared and aware during the holiday season:

    • Be extra cautious about locking doors and windows when you leave the house, even for a few minutes.
    • When leaving home for an extended time, have a neighbor or family member watch your house and pick up your newspapers and mail.
    • Indoor and outdoor lights should be on an automatic timer.
    • Leave a radio or television on so the house looks and sounds occupied.
    • Large displays of holiday gifts should not be visible through the windows and doors of your home.
    • When setting up a Christmas tree or other holiday display, make sure doors and passageways are clear inside your home.
    • Be cautious answering the door; criminals sometimes pose as couriers delivering gifts.
    Holiday Shopping

    • Shop during daylight hours whenever possible. If you must shop at night, go with a friend or family member.
    • Dress casually and comfortably.
    • Avoid flashy clothing, expensive jewelry, designer purses, etc.
    • Do not carry a purse or wallet, if possible. Consider carrying a "decoy" wallet.
    • Carry your Driver License and only the necessary cash, checks and/or a credit card you expect to use. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
    • Pay for purchases with a check or credit card when possible.
    • Keep cash in your front pocket.
    • Notify the credit card issuer immediately if your credit card is lost, stolen or misused.
    • Keep a record of all of your credit card numbers and customer service phone numbers in a safe place at home.
    • Be extra careful if you do carry a wallet or purse. They are the prime targets of criminals in crowded shopping areas, transportation terminals, bus stops, on buses and other rapid transit.
    • Avoid overloading yourself with packages. It is important to have clear visibility and freedom of motion to avoid mishaps.
    • Beware of strangers approaching you for any reason. At this time of year, "con-artists" may try various methods of distracting you with the intention of taking your money or belongings.
Driving on shopping trips during the holidays requires extra safety precautions.

    • Avoid driving alone or at night whenever possible.
    • Keep all car doors locked and windows closed while in or out of your car. Set your alarm or use an anti-theft device.
    • If you must shop at night, park in a well-lighted area.
    • Avoid parking next to vans, trucks with camper shells, or cars with tinted windows.
    • Park as close as you can to your destination.
    • Remember where you parked. Write it down if you have to!
    • Never leave your car unoccupied with the motor running or with children inside.
    • Do not linger in your car talking on the phone, eating, figuring your checkbook, etc.
    • Do not leave packages or valuables visible on the seat or floorboard of your car.
    • Be sure to locate your keys prior to going to your car.
    • Do NOT use your remote to locate, unlock your doors or start your engine before you arrive at your car.
    • Keep a secure hold on your purse, handbag and parcels.
    • Keep your handgun AND intermediate weapon(s) readily accessible. Deadly force should not be your only option!
    • When approaching and leaving your vehicle, be aware of your surroundings.
    • Do not approach your car alone if there are suspicious people in the area.
    • Don't hesitate to ask mall or store security for an escort before leaving your shopping location
If you haven't already, you should:

    • Take Basic Handgun Class to prepare for CHL
    • Take your CHL Class and get your application in the mail
    • Learn about Situational Awareness
    • Learn about your legal options for Unlicensed Carry until your CHL arrives
    • Talk about "What If" scenarios
    • Have a plan
    • Learn about weapon options and tactics (defensive flashlights, kubotans, stun guns, tasers, pepper spray, etc.)
    • Find a competent instructor and TRAIN!!!
Please forward this to the people you care about. Help everyone you know stay safe this holiday season.

DoubleAction: do you have any classes that run two days, but during the day? A 10-hr class in one day unfortunately doesn't work for me, even on weekends.

We don't do regularly-scheduled 2 part classes, because we had problems with people showing up for the second half. It caused all sorts of accounting problems.

If you'd like to do a two part class, let me know. You can attend the first half one day, I'll hold onto your paperwork and you can complete the second half of another regularly scheduled class.

Guys, this thread is specifically for Double Action CHL's classes. Other sponsors can post their classes in their own threads, and anyone looking to post about their own classes, but that is not yet a sponsor, should consider becoming one. Seriously. $30 per month is the entry level sponsorship, and just one student a month more than pays for it. It only makes sense. Now back to the thread. Sorry things got derailed Tracy.

What are the requirement for a CHL? I just moved to Katy in Aug. & still working on getting my DL.

Considering the post directly above yours, you might want to start a separate thread.
