I was given this idea by a friend to prolong the life of my railroad tie backstop
He said to screw on a 3/4" horse stall matt on the front
The mat will reduce the damage to the backstop and he said when you attach a paper target it gives a clean cut.
Where before there was spalling from the wood sometimes
Also the mat is self healing

So I put this up today and will report back when I use it.

where did you get the railroad ties? Just got some property and hope to build a small range down the road
McCoy's building supply sells a good grade tie for about $16 each

Homo Depot has a lesser quality one for about $14 each
