There's no such thing as a fallout map, far too many variables. Fallout spread and dispersion will depend on the scope of the attack, the time of year, current weather pattern etc, far too many variables to make a judgment prior to an attack. Which targets will be hit is also just a guess. If you survived the initial attack you would need to act immediately, by act I mean get to a shielded area, shelter with at least six inches of earth all around and food and survival supplies to last at least a month. You would also need sanitation in your shelter and the ability for air circulation, imagine being underground during the summer months in Texas. You would also need instruments to know when fallout levels were safe to venture out and how long you could stay out after you determined it was all clear. How many people have access to this kind of shelter or even a plan of any kind?

Much of the infrastructure would be damaged or destroyed and in complete chaos, likely no phones, radio and who knows what damages would be incurred from the emp from all of those strikes world wide. If there were any additional nuclear strikes you would have to restart your sheltering. And lets not forget about all of those nuclear reactors worldwide that now have no one watching over them and those that were deliberately struck and now melting down. Not a pretty picture, the reactors would keep spewing fallout for years. At any rate it would never be totally safe ever again. Strontium-90 will be in much of the soil including the plants we eat, half life 29 years. Caesium-137, half life 30 years. So many elements during fission that it's not even worth the worry in my opinion. Pop open a beer and enjoy what time you have left.

Also don't forget that all nuclear powers including the U.S. use multiple reentry vehicles (MRVs), up to ten sperate war heads per missile plus decoys used to confuse defenders.

Growing up in SE Texas during the Cold War, we were always worried about all the petrochemical targets we were surrounded by. I was always told by my dad and his ex-military buddies that refineries and whatnot wouldn't be targeted by an invading force like Russia or China as they would be of use, but would be destroyed via our own government in a last-ditch effort to make them unusable. Don't know how accurate that is, particularly in light of Putin's tactics in Ukraine lately. Another interesting tidbit, during the Cold War, a map of targets from USSR got leaked and it showed College Station as being a high value target. The story goes that it was because during WWII, some of the best military strategists were from A&M.
