This seems like a stupid question but at what angle does a vertical foregrip become an Angled foregrip. Personally, I think vertical is 90 degrees and anything more/less is Angled. The reason i ask is because I was at my lgs and was looking at a bcm stu by grip that is not 90 degrees. The store rep said it is still considered vertical. What are your thoughts?

This is going to seem like a stupid answer, but who GAF if/when it's considered by anybody to be vertical or angled?

If it helps you shoot better, don't get caught up in the pedantry around terminology

The only VFGs i have are knights on clones. I don't really like them, but they look right.

my understanding is vertical means 90°

I don't think you're likely be in a situation where it matters, BUT if you are, is the benefit you get from a forward grip worth the potential chance some wannabe G-man decides to ruin your life over 10°?

    I think 90 - 85ish degrees would be vertical.

    Here's how I see it

    Yes vertical is 90’s.

I’m trying to think how to answer your post as I type. As you know the gun industry is filled with products that reinvent the wheel or are useless or overrated.

A donkey dick grip on an ak is a vertical grip. It’s always been one but it’s not shaped 90 degrees.

I think the way to think of it is what’s the function of the accessory? It can zig zag, it can be a true 90 degrees, or it can be a big red floppy dildo. It will all mount the same. So if the intent is the same, it’s a grip. “Vertical” is just a legacy term.

It would seem that if it's an actual grip you wrap your thumb around it's vertical.

The angled grips you just cup your hand underneath with no place to actually grip it.

No idea if the ATF has made a distinction but if they do it will make no sense to us mere mortals.
So it's like an arm brace. It's not the actual product but how you use it.

Don't like them anyhow, so I am not concerned.

Gov will interpret it any way they want to.
    Thanks for the info.
