Drove to Waco yesterday to run some errands and ended up at both Academy and Cabela's. While purchasing ammo wasn't my reason for going, how do you go to either place and not end up buying a box or two of something. I only looked at prices for ammo I use and just did a general browse to see what else was available.

.22 - Academy had several boxes at the gun counter. I don't know what the price was as I didn't need any. I did not see any .22 at Cabela's.

.223 / 5.56 - Both stores had plenty of .223 for 9.99 up to the mid 20.00's for the 'hog hunting' rounds. I saw more .223/5.56 at Cabela's. Also at Cabelas they had these square cardboard boxes of 120rnds (IIRC) for 79.99 and 240rnd for 170.00 (give or take a few bucks).

9mm - Both stores had a heck of a lot more than .40

.40 - Academy had less than 10 boxes SD ammo (various manufacturers) I took the last 2 boxes of 50 rnd Winchester 180gr FMJ for 18.99 per box.

.40 - Cabela's didn't have much of a selection either. A few different types of SD ammo, the cheapest .40 was Lawman (non-brass) w/ this blue bullet. I think it was described as "bonded" or something along those lines. I picked up a box of 100rnd American Eagle 165gr 44.99. 3 boxes remaining.

.45 was plentiful at the both stores.

7.62x39 Both stores had it, but Cabela's had spam cans of it, I did not see any higher count boxes of it at Academy.

7.62x51 - I saw 3 boxes of it at Academy, Cabela's had bigger selection.

    .410 - 12ga - Plentiful.

    Mosins - 6 Rifles for 169.99 - fair condition.

Hope this is useful to someone here @ TGT.

In July and August Cabelas typically drops their mosin prices to $130 and there are couple weeks where they get down to $99 when they get huge shipments in

It is very useful. As I now have another unwanted appt. at the VA. But, it does now give me chance to check and restock my stock if "needed". Needed. That's almost an oxymoron when it comes to ammunition any more ain't it.

I quit looking at our wallyworld because all I ever heard was "No .40". I have to go back to Waco next week so I'll spend a little more time in town looking around. I'll try to swing by Fun Guns, Unique, and Praco as well as the wallyworlds. If this works out I'll post what I find.

When I went by Unique and Fun a few weeks back, both had .40. Didn't really ask how many or how much as I was more focused on 9 and .380

Thought, repeat, Thought, I saw some .40 in the Hillsboro Wally world last week.

For the first time in a very long time, the local Academy had an end cap loaded with Winchester White Box 100 round count 9mm FMJ for $26.97 each. A fellow asked a clerk if they had any empty card board boxes since he wanted to buy 1,000 rounds.

When the clerk said no, the fellow shoveled as many boxes as he could carry in his arms and on his chest, then proceeded to check out.

Guess he did not know Academy has shopping carts and baskets.

Spot shortages will not end until people quit cleaning out the shelves.

Went to the Wallworld in Hillsboro yesterday, 27 MAR 2014, an saw quite a few boxes of .40. I believe it was Winchester, about 4-5 boxes and Blazer, about 5-6 boxes.

Thanks for the follow up. I failed to post what I found at the Hewitt Wally World last week. 5 boxes of Winchester .40 180 gr 50rnd ct. for 18.99

They had a couple of boxes of 9mm but the guy in front of me purchased those.

They had 5.56 and .223 out the wazoo as well. Most of it was in those miniature ammo boxes 120ct IIRC.

My wife went to Waco today and picked up .40 at Academy but I haven't had a chance to ask her about well they were stocked up. I'll end up in Waco tomorrow or early next week and report what I find.

IF you find any .45 acp 230 grn ball ammo at a decent price, please let me know. I got the last of WWB at Hillsboro Wallyworld. And that was only (1) box of 100 rnds.

Walmart is hit or miss at different locations. The walmart in Red Oak has PLENTY of .40 and .45, but no 9mm. I picked up a 100rd pack of wwb for $43.00.

I am in Bosque Co., If I see any in Waco I'll grab some, meet in Whitney or Hillsboro to get it to you?

What do you consider a decent price? I have never priced .45 so I have no idea on pricing for this caliber.

[QUOTEI picked up a 100rd pack of wwb for $43.00. ][/QUOTE]

I believe that's what I paid for that 100 rnd. box as well. Seeing as how this is a new caliber for me, I'll have to use that as a benchmark. Of sorts.

I appreciate that. Right now I'm running short on funds, just checked wallet to verify. I won't be able to do anything until Friday. So I'll just have to hope they, Whoever has the stock, doesn't run out until after I get there. But, just thought of this, I do have a new box of Winchester 50 rnd. 180grn. in my safe from when I had my EMP and never used. A trade for a box of Winchester .45 acp.?

Oh yeah, meet 'ya +- half way to make it easier.

    Ammo update 3/31 - Waco

    Academy is smoking crack.
    A) Last week when my wife went in there for practice rounds (.40 165gr or 180gr). She asks for help finding .40 target rounds and instead of FMJ gun counter guy shows her HP. She insists "That's not what the box looks like that we normally get", she grabs a couple of boxes because she's a great wife and knows we can always use ammo. She gets it home and compares it with the boxes we have, and sure enough Remington Ultimate Defense BJHP looks nothing like Winchester FMJ.

    B) Today at Academy: 50 rounds aforementioned Winchester FMJ 180gr 34.99
At Wally world 100 rounds Winchester FMJ 180gr 36.97.

I didn't check prices anywhere else as I didn't believe I would find it lower.
There were several boxes of .45 and .40 at Wally World on Franklin. No .223 or 5.56 like the Hewitt store has. Also, the Franklin store was putting in Gun cabinets which they hadn't had before.

If it'll help anybody. The Walmart in Hillsboro had quite a few boxes of WWB in .40 both 50 and 100 rnd. A few boxes of WWB 9mm 50 rnd boxes, quite a few boxes of .380 WWB AND .32 WWB. Also saw some Tulammo .223 and what looked like Federal .223. A couple boxes of UMC .45acp 250 rnd. And a few boxes of WWB .45acp 100 rnd boxes. Some misc. shotgun shells and a few misc. moxes of this and that. NO .22 of Any kind yet.

    Hope this helps.

Checked Waco Academy NO .243 and NO .22LR. FunGuns has 54R spam cans and bulk.223. Cabela's has 7.62x39 spam cans but they are a bit pricey.

It just kills me that .40 is starting to turn into the new .22 as scarce as it seems to be getting.

Cabela's in Allen has a crap load of 9, 40, 45, just about anything but 22. Small boxes to bulk packs, including boxes they package into their plastic ammo boxes. Decent prices compared to gun shows and even Wally World sometimes.
