What does a newcomer to the state have to do to be legal and purchase a gun, Rifle or pistol in TX. There are alot of people like myself moving to Tx from other states and could use some help in knowing their rights. Thanks!

We'll cover this question on air today but, generally speaking, once you've established residency in Texas and carry Texas ID, reflecting a Texas address, you're good to go. Texas, for the time being, remains a "free state." That means there is no registration of firearms in Texas and Texas law preempts local municipalities on this matter. For example, try as they might, the City of Houston/Dallas/Austin/San Antonio, cannot ban you from owning a firearm or even a particular kind of firearm if it is otherwise allowed by state and federal law. They also cannot require you to register such a firearm or provide them with notice that you own it other than that required by NFA rules regarding the signature of the chief law enforcement officer (CLEO) for items purchased/manufactured on ATF Form 1 or ATF Form 4. In other words, we treat you like an adult...Welcome to Texas!
