I never wore any hearing protection growing up. Started shooting about age 5.
Actually never started till into my 40s.
I did wear glasses (for vision purposes).
    How old is he?
    I had a 20ga. around 7 or 8, started off with a .410.

ETA: This does say "today", though...

If you have to support the person shooting the firearm....it's too much firearm for them......

Nothing about that photo exudes safety and responsible gun ownership..........

Indicative of how far the NRA has lost it's way........
That's the worst thing about the photo. It shows just how far off the mark present leadership is. They seem to have no clue as to what they are doing besides collecting money. Their core mission is to promote safety and they can't even get that right.

When I started wearing eye glasses I popped the extra money for polycarbonate lenses. I still don't wear hearing protection when hunting.

I switched to contacts about age 20, so I wear shooting glasses when needed now.
No hearing protection when hunting either.

Age 6 with a 20 gauge, no hearing or eye protection. Full length gun (never heard of youth guns back then) but we reloaded our own so it at least had a light load that still left bruises. But I never complained.
