The New Deal and Social Security started our "entitlement" mindset. The responsibility of charity shifted from the church to government and was no longer voluntary. The responsibility of "self" evolved into the complaint "I'm a victim of ...(insert p.c. term here)" We are now a nation of spoiled brats.

Well said. Also, without a doubt, the liberally complicit media has had a major hand in swaying the minds of the average American dipstick who is uneducated about the issues, whether they be political, economic, or social.

At this point the New Deal and entitlement leads the way.
So what specific part of in the New Deal caused this entitlement IYO?

    New Deal

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The New Deal was the name that United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave to his complex package of economic programs 1933-36 with the goals of what historians call the 3 Rs, of giving Relief to the unemployed and badly hurt farmers, Reform of business and financial practices, and promoting Recovery of the economy during the Great Depression.
The Great Depression had devastated the nation by the time Roosevelt took office in 1933. Every bank in the nation had closed its doors and no one could cash a check or get at their savings.[1] The unemployment rate was 25% and higher in major industrial and mining centers. Farm prices had fallen by 50%. Thousands of mortgages closed down.[2]
Historians distinguish a "First New Deal" (1933) and a "Second New Deal" (1934-36). Some programs were declared unconstitutional, and others were repealed during World War II; in early 1937 almost no new programs were initiated because of the opposition of the new Conservative Coalition.[3]
The "First New Deal" (March 4, 1933) dealt with groups; from banking and railroads to industry and farming.
A "Second New Deal" in 1934-35 included the Wagner Act to promote labor unions, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) relief program, the Social Security Act, and new programs to aid tenant farmers and migrant workers. The Supreme Court ruled several programs unconstitutional; however, most were soon replaced, with the exception of the NRA. After 1936, the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 was the only major legislation; it set maximum hours and minimum wages for most categories of workers.[4]
The WPA, CCC and other relief programs were shut down during World War II by the Conservative Coalition (i.e., the opponents of the New Deal in Congress); they argued the return of full employment made them superfluous. Many regulations were ended during the wave of deregulation from 1975 to 1989. Several New Deal programs remain active, with some still operating under the original names, including the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC), the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The largest programs still in existence today are the Social Security System, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Fannie Mae.

The part where men were told they could rely on the government instead of themselves. Just like DUMBama, make it worse, then offer crumbs and call it help.

If you haven't read The Forgotten Man, put it on your list.

I think the New Deal is a very good answer but I am going to go back to my original answer. Slavery. Just ponder for a minute, where would we be today if slavery in the US never happened.

Slavery - IMO if people were taught the facts of slavery and not just the part of white plantation owners then slavery would be a non issue.
The majority of slaves were sold into slavery by blacks to whites. This was an accepted practice in those days although IMO wrong, it was accepted.
Remember slavery goes way back beyond the history of America.
Because our history book focus on slavery as a cause of the civil war that was not the root cause - political power was the root cause.

I'll subscribe to every word you said. Slavery has always been around, even in the Bible. It was nothing unique to the United States, but history revisionists would like the masses to believe it.

A dear friend now deceased told me decades ago that the birth control pill will dramatically alter the fabric of our society by removing consequence for poor choices made by women. He further expounded that women used to "marry up" when selecting a provider for her and her children and kept her man from straying off with sex. The pill would change her options and his. Hense we have women who choose men that can't or don't provide and the pill escalated broken homes.

The War of the Northern Aggression, in which States Rights were lost.

Remember that at the time the Constitution was written, the definition of a state was a soveriegn nation.

The failure of our states to exercise the 10th Amendment and tell the Feds to but out of things the Constitution does not specifically allow them, such as health care, public education (now replacing Military Intelligence as the ultimate oxymoron), and too many more to list.

What we need is a constitutional convention whereby the states can ammend the constitution without any interference from congress. Install term limits and limit the power of the feds back to what it was supposed to be originally. This procedure is in the constitution in Article V.

You're right. Henry Clay's ideas on nullification were blown away by the war. Each sovereign state should be exactly that, sovereign. A state should have the ability to nullify ANY bullshit act that comes out of Washington.
