Ran a couple 6.5 creedmoor loads across the chrono. Took 10 shots with each (and had 2 bad readings or failure to read, on each) My 140 grain BTHP with IMR4350 are averaging 2600 FPS with an ES of 18 and a SD of 6.
    4bec67eeda86b5508c4a510f720df5cb.jpg

And my 147 ELD Match with Superformance powder are averaging 2744 FPS with an ES of 21 and a SD of 7.

Both are shooting under .5 MOA. Closest place to shoot an any distance over 100 yards is at least an hour away, but I’m gonna try and motivate myself to go tomorrow and see how well they shoot out to 600 yards.

Those are some pretty good loads. I have some test loads for the 7mm ready to go. Just have to find time to make it to the range.

As my grandpa used to say, “just out farting around!” I’m too old to go out drinking and carrying on like I used to, so when I have a day off, I like to go shoot holes in paper! That 6.5 I bought last year has been a blast to load for and shoot. And with the uncertain availability of powder, I’ve had to work up loads for 4 different powders for it. Just recently got a good supply of IMR4350 and 140 grain HPBT’s, so I’ve been able to really fine tune that one.

Nice looking rifle. I went with the Ruger American.

I looked at getting a Ruger but my inner cheap-skate came out, and I got the Savage. I use to be a 6.5 creedmoor “hater”. I thought it was just a fad that didn’t have enough boogie to hunt anything bigger than a whitetail. A couple years ago, it seemed like everyone I went hunting with was carrying a Ruger Precision in 6.5 creedmoor! After shooting a few, and really looking at the numbers, I realized that it’s not that much different than the .270 I was so in love with. I was shooting a 130 grain (.277) bullet at 3000 FPS with my .270, and I can push a higher B.C. 130 grain (.264) bullet at over 2800 with my 6.5. With the right shot placement, that difference isn’t nearly as significant as some make it out to be. I shot 2 deer this year. One with my .270 and one with my 6.5. They both went the exact same distance after being shot, NOWHERE!

I went with the 7-08. It seemed a good balance between 6.5cm and 308. It's working pretty good so far.

7mm08 is a caliber Id love to get into
I'm using the hornady ELD-m 162 gr because I couldn't find the 180gr when I started. One day I may switch over for the higher BC once everything gets back to normal.

I'm not chasing velocity and I found an accurate load in the lower end of the spectrum for my previous brass. I have a new test setup for the new alpha brass I can't wait to try out.

One day I’ll say my next rifle is 7-08. Then the next day I’ll think I probably need a 300 Win Mag. Right now I’m thinking I need a 6.8 Western! As much as I love the 6.5, I do like the ability to run the heavier bullets, especially since I plan on some bigger hunts in the coming years. 300 Win Mag is probably overkill, so 7-08 or 6.8 Western is more than likely the direction I’ll go.

6.8 western is another cool one. The scheels up in DFW areahas bags upon bags of winchester brass in 6.8 western just sitting there

I go back and fourth, too. I was saving for a glock 10mm but wound up getting a walther q5.

I'm back and fourth on 338win mag a d 375 ruger as well. I have the 450 for bigger animals up close but it would be nice to reach out and touch a bear from 500 yards... not that I actually do any hunting. But just in case, ya know?

300 WM is never over kill. Just go up and down on bullet weight if you think you need too. My Uncle took everything from Turkey to Elk with his trusty .300 WMs.
