I’d be interested also !loaded test batches of 50-70 using 5744. As soon as the rain lets up going to chrono and check for pressure.

300gr soft lead, powder coat. 5744 50 yards. 3 shots
22gr, Lots of blow by on the case, case did not expand well in the chamber 1113 to 1210 fps. 6" spread
25gr 1320 to 1360 fps 3" spread.
29 gr 1574 to 1590 fps 2" spread. slight signs of pressure on the primers.
450gr soft lead powder coat 5744 50 yard 3 shots
22gr, no blow by this time. 970 to 1030 FPS 4" spread
25gr 1217 to 1230, 2" spread
29gr 1363 to 1382, 2" clear, but not excessive, signs of pressure on the primers
Barrel was clean and bright. Fired 5 450gr., darr lube, 55gr 3F BP rounds. 1.5" spread.

I have not loaded smokeless for the 45-70 yet, I was waiting for the 5744.Thanks Rick. I'll use the starting loads to try out in my trapdoor.
Any luck with the hollow base bullets?
