I always envisioned my 296 handloaded with "manstoppers" (cup-nosed wadcutters, basically) of moderate weight (say, 200 grains) moving at moderate speeds (say, ~900 fps). That's plenty of oomph for defensive use but not so much that I'd dread practicing.

The issue in this case is the light weight of the Night Guard. I load the same load in 44 magnum cases and in my 629 it’s very pleasant to shoot. If I win the auction for the GP100 I expect similar ease of handling.

When I bought my Marlin Dark 30-30, I wish I had bought the other 3 in stock. Bought mine pre rice rabies/ Marlin bankruptcy. They were selling for almost $4k on gunbroker during the height of the stupid.

I was tempted to buy one of the Mosin Nagant PU Sniper rifles (turned down bolt and fixed power scope). IIRC they were $400ish when the plain jane 91/30's were going for $79. I was poor as f**k at the time so the PU was not to be. Don't really see the PU's anymore...

Browning White Lightning 16ga. Back when those units were </= $1,200.00 NIB @ Briley & before they became "Shot Show Specials".

    AND

An Athena Grade III or higher while they were still in production and relatively "affordable".

I regret not buying a Remington Model 8 aroud 15 to 20 years ago. They are cost prohibitive now.

I also wish I had bought about 5 to 10 each of Enfields, Mosin Nagant 91/30s & M44s, and Russian, Yugoslavian, Norinco or Albanian SKS rifles - preferably 10 of each about 15 years ago. Then again, even 10 decent Carcano and 10 Arisaka rifles would have been an excellent buy a decade ago. Who could have imagined what they all go for now as compared to then!

We had all my father in law’s guns after he passed. I made a list and offered whatever they wanted to my wife’s siblings (I figured it was only fair). The Remington Model 8 was his hunting rifle until the 80’s and now one of her sisters has it.

The Model 8 is a true classic. One of the first reliable centerfire semi-auto rifles. If I am ever able to actually save any money again, I may search one out but right now, just cannot afford one without dipping into my savings.

Still have yet to come across one in person, but if I found a Detonics Scoremaster in good condition for a reasonable price I'd probably bite. I've read stories online about people finding them for as low as $700. It's such a beautiful gun.

Remington BDL chambered in 8mm Remington Magnum. I had an 8mm mag rifle don't remember the make and sold it. Used reloads in it.
