I think I lost brain cells watching that whole thing.

IF Texas goes independent, we won't be alone. It'll be larger this time - and we'll no doubt have support from some foreign countries with influence on the world stage to keep hostility from Washington DC to a minimum.

Washington DC and the US government would probably be hesitant to engage in a second shooting civil war - or rather, participate in hostilities and cause Texas to fight a revolutionary war. That could lead to instability economically, socially, and politically within the remains of the United States. Better for them to say "fine, be that way" to whatever states chose to go, and work out a diplomatic solution with trade agreements and a peaceful divorce settlement. Who gets the kids, what do visitation rights look like, who gets what toys...

Yes, Texas' first and foremost military concern would be the southern border - migrants flooding into Texas either to get here, or to further travel to the US. A free and independent Texas doesn't have the red tape bullshit the US government has. Deporting them would be a faster, easier process, as could denying entry in the first place. I bet a border wall / fence gets built ASAP. Texas Rangers / DPS Troopers could arrest for illegal entry instead of waiting for some other crime to be committed.

We could likewise pull a Biden - or a DeSantis. Put 'em on a bus, put 'em on a plane, and drop them off somewhere else in the US - preferably liberal Sanctuary Cities. If we're nice, we'll even land the plane before they get off.

Patrol boats on the Rio Grande wouldn't have those belt feds just for show either - they could actually shoot back at the damn coyotes and Mexican military units that take shots at them, and call in support from the newly formed Texas Army or Texas Guard if need be. Drug runners or soldiers in some vehicles with machine guns taking shots at a boat is one thing - but they'll scatter like roaches when a helicopter shows up with a minigun.

We can also work out a Trump-like "Wait there" policy and have Mexico hold them while a decision is made to allow entry as an Asylum Seeker, put 'em on a plane to the US, or turn them away. No reason independent Texas has to have poor relations with Mexico.

As for the other parts of the video - yeah, Texas has technology, manufacturing, and food production. We've got warm water ports. Oil & gas. None of that is going to go away. WE could be energy independent lickity split.

    Yeah, still pro Texit.

    I agree.
Its pretty woke trying to say Texas wanted independence from Mexico over slavery...

Yep. Slavery was dying out in the developed world anyway. Even the Confederacy, had it remained a thing - would've seen a fast end to slavery as mechanical means of production and farming would make the expense of buying and maintaining slaves useless. Slavery in the US ended more because of the industrial revolution than it did the warm, loving soul of Abraham Lincoln. The war between the states was as much Lincoln poking the southerners in the eye, as it was about freeing slaves. Slavery was *a* factor, not *the* factor. Ecnomoic policy, taxation, and states rights were as large or larger factors. The cultural divide between New England and the south was already strong in the early 1800's.

Even if Texas remained independent, and the Confederacy gained independence - I think we would've seen an end to legal slavery within the bounds of North America by the 1880's. Slavery was expensive. People have to eat. People get sick, people die. They have to be replaced. And what do you do with a crippled slave, or a sick slave, or one too old to work the fields? Murder them? Try to sell them? Or do you keep feeding and housing them until they die naturally? And they make babies - who you, Mr. Slave Owner, ultimately have to care for, and you've got years of them being too small to be worked, just like the old heads.

Machines don't need days off (unless they break down) - machines don't need two or three meals per day. Machines, if well cared for, would last longer than a slave's useful life. Machines also don't get notions to steal away in the middle of the night heading north, or lead a revolt and plot to murder their owner (at least until we made AI controlled robots...)

Industrial machines, automobiles and expansion of transit systems - these things would've seen the end of slavery regardless. That's not to say that there wouldn't be different economic classes, nor am I saying that racism wouldn't have been a thing still - there are plenty of vehemently racist people in every state in the union today. Ignorance will always be a thing, but I think had Texas remained free in the 1800's - the people wouldn't be more or less racist than they are today. That is - most people probably wouldn't give a shit about your ethnicity, only your character, while some can't get beyond skin color or perceived background.

its a shame Texas struggled so much financially - but independence from Mexico was expensive, and the US dangled a juicy carrot to join the union.
