Surprised no one has thrown the Steyr M series in here, I had one before I got my XD, and they are a hell of a bargain, I think CDNN still has them for around 340....
Apparently it's common for the Glock 22 to not want to work properly when fitted with a light. I think the only Glock I'd ever trust fully is the original; the 17 - not that I would, they point wrong for me. Everything else is a modification to the platform.
If anybody has a Glock 22 with a light installed sitting around for HD, make sure it works in that configuration!
I'm an XD fan ... just got an XDm-9, had an XD-40 previously ... I like them because they fit my hand perfectly and they are accurate and (at least for mine) have never failed to fire ... you need to try them all, even Glocks (they feel awful in MY hands, you might love them). Buy the one that fits you best and then enjoy ... and get it fast, Obama's comin' ...
