    Texasjack,

Granted, though I'd still prefer my half-century old Series 70 GM to use for self-defense. = HEAVY & rather CLUNKY but I trust it to go BANG every time & even with the cheapest 230 grain FMJ GI ammo, it is a STOPPER, whether the threat be drugged-up Moros pirates, SS Troopers, fanatic Japanese Marines, CHICOM human wave assaults, PAVN Communists or terrorists of many sorts.

    yours, satx.

Yeah, I freely admit that I'm a fan of the 1911. Like it's ancestor, the .45 Colt, before it, it has that proven track record that can't be denied. The P320 - albeit in 9 mm - was a great choice to replace the Beretta 92, which was a bad compromise in every sense of the word. I have one that is in 45 ACP and it puts John Browning's round downrange with the same sort of integrity as his 1911. Like I say, it's the ease of cleaning that makes the P320 a great choice for the range.

I picture the image that a friend who survived the Tet Offensive told me about, where the base commander was calling in help on the radio with one hand and shooting Viet Cong sappers that were trying to enter the bunker with the 1911 in his other hand.

Changing from 45 ACP to 9mm was a matter of logistics and compatibility probably more than anything. IIRC, United States was the only nation using 45 ACP. So with just about everyone else using 9mm, it just made sense to make the switch. I'm surprised it hadn't happened much sooner.

    Ok! Ok!
I just wanted to let you know that after reading the posts on this thread, I had to go out, and get a real 1911 in .45ACP!
I got 10% off the purchase from being a Veteran, and I couldn’t pass it up.
I bought a Kimber Stainless LW!
Now I just have to load up some rounds and go shooting her!
As one of my friends said,”It’ll put a grin on your chin.”
    I certainly hope so!!

So every time these pics come up I have to look and ponder. This time I note some of the 1911's have mags, some don't. Any reason as to what ones.

I think back and generally, if I had a safes full of guns, generally I would keep them all loaded, they ain't no good if not...

There's a pattern to them apparent to no one but myself - and not all the ones w/mags in are actually loaded.
