Looks like a Rat Snake but need better pics of head. Google Rat Snake and compare. If dead, open mouth and see if it is Cottonmouth.

It does not appear to be a Coral, Rattle, or Copperhead, which are the other most common venomous snakes in Texas.

    Generally ...

    Round eyes - nonvenomous
    Slant eyes - venomous

With that said ... looks like the new boot/belt kind to me ...

I've always gone by the head.

    Has a head....kill it.

No head.....shoot it one more time just to be sure.

Judging by the shape of the head I want to say none venomous, but I would kill it anyways.

I really don't like snakes. Evil creatures.

The kind that gets rid of rodents. Therefore, he lives. What did god say about disgusting, beady-eyed, rabies infected rodents?

Unless he is in the house, leave it be. No need to get rid of something who helps control nuisance animals

If rather have a rat in my house than a rat snake. Same applies to the yard.
