Nope, I've told her never to buy me anything "expensive" without passing it by me first.
The girls know it as well, and will get Mom involved with their gifts.
I don't want money spent on me if it's not exactly what I would want.

As a recent "for example", she wanted to buy me a new grill for Fathers day.
I have a NIB grill in the garage she doesn't know about.
I told her I didn't want a new grill, so she bought me several shirts instead, couldn't have been happier.

I would echo the SKS, which you can find at reasonable prices.

The 10-22 is even more reasonable, and 22 ammo is super cheap compared to any rifle ammo.

Skip the Ruger Ranch RIfles IMO. I sold mine. If you want to go 556, then you can find ARs for around $500. Keep an eye on the "Good Gun Deals" thread. ANd ARs have a TON of accessories for mods that he might want to do in the future.

You are a pretty good girlfriend to do this for him!

I bought a like new SKS at the beginning of this year for $450 total. I have other SKSs, but this one looked spanking new! I've had a ruger 556 but it was a princess ( very picky on ammo ). All of my sks don't care what I feed em and decently accurate with the iron sights. Careful though, some are well used.[IMG]
