Need some advice on what type of optic you would put on a SOCOM 16. Not planning on taking shots over a couple or three hundred yards. Probably mostly going to be used for truck/ranch/pigs/yotes/fun.

Stock irons. Just practice with them. I have an Ar-10 with 4-16 scope. 9 out of ten times I use the irons out to about 250 yards. After that my eyes aren't that great.

Iron sights are fine for the range you are talking about. We shoot at the high power matches ranges out to 600 yrds with iron and the really good shooters keep all 20 rounds inside of 10 inches easy. It does take some practice but iron sights are great. Also they are repeatable and not likely to keep broken like glass.

With what sights? That SOCOM front sight is not a National Match blade

I'd probably throw an eotech on there.

A good idea, you could even put a flip style magnifier if you felt the need to have it.

A less than one minute change over to a narrow NM front sight if you wanted and only about $30.

    Front Sight, National Match, .062

Mine works fine on pigs and just about anything else I have faced in east Texas using nothing but it's factory irons.
