Well, I have the suspicion that we are only getting half of the story but the whole thing sucks for folks that were just out to have a good time, especially for the families.

I hear ya, but when does a Sheriff get to decide to dis-arm the lawfully armed in a non-30-06 type environment...if you will?

Do they get to make up whatever bull shit they decide is the law?

This isn't the first time a shooting occurred at one of these trial ride events. Getting beat up or shot seems to be a regular occurrence these days. When I was younger they seemed to be fun family events. Not so much anymore. Its like there are rival groups within the group or something like that.

Never did one but I was interested. The guy I worked for only had cutting horses which were never going on a trail ride.

I wouldn't put any faith in Smith County Sheriff's Department.

Just google "corruption in Smith County, Texas" or "corruption in Tyler Texas" and see what pops up. Smith county had at one time been called "one of the most corrupt counties in Texas years ago.

Doesn’t matter to me, if they’re not in prison or on parole they should be able to defend themselves.

I went on trail rides from the late 60's until the 80's and never saw any shootouts or even fights.
It was all fun and comradery. Of course we drank a lot.

I wouldn't put any faith in Smith County Sheriff's Department. l Actually he's doing exactly what the law required. Didn't know if the ride was legally on the property, or the security Co was lic. in Texas, alcohol and guns, no permit. Bubba security. Guy shot was out on bail for murder. Must have been a real 'fun' ride. Dallas had a shooting at gathering while back, same kind of problem.
Sherriff is just investigating, clean up detail.

Definitely poorly written. They left out the name of the band. I'd like to know what band got the crowd hyped enough for people to start shooting
