Well, there's a small gun show over in AR this Saturday and Sunday; it's the G&S Hot Springs Gun Show, 130 tables. A stop there means a stop at Bubb Brews and a very tasty meal of smoked wet brisket (if your familiar with Jewish delicatessens you know what wet means).

There is also a gun show over at Mesquite, TX too. That's the Premiere Big Town Gun Show with 750 tables. A trip there would mean a stop at Costco and at Total Wine and I can use supplies from both.

Then there is the fact that whitetail hunting season commences next weekend and I have not yet driven by, let alone set foot on, the area in which I hope to hunt. Now, I could always just show up on opening day, find a place to park and do what my son has suggested numerous times - sit about no more than 50 yards off of the road and wait for a deer to show up. Did that last year in NY and it worked. At least that way I am close to my car if it winds up there are a bunch of yahoos there shooting every which way but at a deer (being it is public land) and I'd be able to make a quick getaway.

Finally, a trip to a casino in OK is tempting.

Anyone else have any suggestions for events within about 150 or so of Texarkana?

Well, if I decide to go look at the WMA where I want to hunt, it might be better tomorrow than Sunday. Nice damp ground to muffle my clomping around in the woods and fields. Of course, if I go, I'll have to bring the mongrel along. Will need to find a dog sitter for when I go hunting.

My dog made my choice of what to do today easy. I hit the hay last night at about 1230AM. Then at 0100, some dickhead woke me up talking outside my apartment and giggling like a wussy with some girl. The guy was a loud jerk and I went out to let him know after which he and she split company. I guess I ruined his night. Got to sleep again maybe at 0200. At about 0330 my dog came up and jumped in the bed. After 15 minutes or so, I figured she wanted to go out. We took a 2 mile walk during which she was sick as a dog. A couple or few more walks were needed up until around 11AM, for much of that time with the pooch either crapping or eating grass.

I tried to sleep between the walks but did not get to bed until 1100. I slept until 3. Then out for another dog walk, she seemed better. After that, maybe around 4, it was off to the dog park. Then back home for something to eat. Been sitting here since dinner feeling kind of pooped (yes that's a pun) and making entries into my bound book for my C&R, diddling with my two Mauser Chileno 1895 rifles and watching some TV. Also went for another 2 mile walk tonight around 730 or so. In all, we walked 6.97 miles today. Oh well, there is tomorrow to do something a little more fun; then again, every day is the weekend in retirement!

Got away to the Caddo Lake WMA on Sunday. Took myself and the mongrel for a decent hike. Saw a few deer signs but not much. Since my Google maps was not working, no service, I never made it to the area I wanted to visit second; regardless probably was not enough daylight left to do it anyway. I'll try to get that done tomorrow or Wednesday. Have arrangements made to board the pooch for a couple of days this weekend while I go out to sleep under a tree and have the deer laugh at me.
