interesting and helpful info here. Thanks.

When loading are you allowed to use a mag loader or does it have to be done by hand?

Mag loaders are loaded by hand, right?

There's plenty of time between courses to mag load, don't over think things.

You can use whatever safe means at your disposal to reload the magazines. The test isn't a "reloading" test.

It sorta is. Our instructor said we had to be able to load our own mags without assistance. Shouldn't be a problem since you only load a maximum of 5 rounds at a time. But they don't put a timer on it.

I'm not doubting that "your" instructed made that statement. Using a mag loader is loading your own ammunition. The range qualification requires "proficient use of a firearm". Beyond a safe method(don't use hammer/chisel) of loading a magazine you're good to go. I could not locate the specific law/code governing range qualification requirements but nothing I did find mentioned loading a magazine as part of the qualification process - beyond the "proficient use" statement.

    this.

The test is so easy to pass that you shouldn't spend a minute worrying about it. Do your normal shooting at the range, don't change a thing for the LTC test.
    Here's a 12 year-old girl effectively passing the test:

Great. Now his Man Card is on the line, too.

I should rephrase my comment. Our instructor said we had to be able to load our own mags without assistance from another individual. Mag loaders are allowed. In fact, IIRC, I think I used a Maglula.
