All metal recyclers in Texas are required by law to:

Fingerprint, take your photo, also have video....record your vehicle tag #, copy your identification and give you a cash transaction card when selling regulated materials........I have such a card for selling our brass......

All concerned-should I call out someone for what appears to be a stupid mistake? I don't wish to hurt the business, especially if this was just an employee and not the owner.

Thats pretty stupid, but not as bad as trying to scrap some metal.
I went the other week & had to show ID & GET FINGER PRINTED just to scrap 100lbs for $6.

Nothing new. In '72 some Engine Men from the Grampus were caught selling brass bearings from a rebuild. The FBI came to their boat and arrested them. Much scrap is stolen.

In Houston it's not uncommon for them to hook chains to the #4 wire & pull it from a new dried in house.

    That's common everywhere.

Back in AZ in the great recession my wife opend her kmart store and noticed it was warm inside.

All the neighbors in the strip mall complained about the same thing.

Called the landlord and AC company and come to find out 27 ac units on the roof of the huge strip mall/shopping center all had their copper coils cut out with what was probably limb loppers and hammers.

That's a lot of copper to take in one night. It wasn't a tweaker in an old pickup.

I just give it to the recycle place. No ID etc. Of course all I got is some old corrugated stuff that goes for about 1c per pound. Even 200 pounds is not worth the hassle for $2 at that price.
