I'm looking for a .45 ACP semiautomatic pistol to meet just 4 criteria.

    1. Must be a standard, cataloged item with absolutely no custom, uncatalogued options.
    2. Best possible accuracy with hardball.
    3. Must have a way to mount a sight rail over the slide. A picatinny-style bottom rail will do the trick; there are adapters that encircle the slide and give you a rail on top. So will pistols that come with the frame *already* drilled and tapped to accept a rail. (The longer the rail, btw, the better.)
    4. No compensator.

I don't care about anything else. Trigger type, handling, weight, size, material - *everything* else is completely unimportant.

Three pistols come to mind for me. There's the Les Baer Bullseye Wadcutter (though hardball would beat it up), the EAA Witness Elite Match, and the older Pardini GT45, from back when they were still putting rail mount holes on the frame.

What others are in that league?

    Glock 21 comes to mind.
I've put a rail and scope on my 21 and done accuracy testing. It's not up to snuff. It's a great pistol and I love it but gilt-edge accuracy is what I'm seeking; the Glock doesn't have it.

That's two votes for a pistol I hadn't considered. I'm off to google for the results of proper, rested accuracy tests using hardball at 25 (preferably 50) yards.

Let me know, could meet you at a nearby range with mine and let you try it out, if interested I could even bring the Ti-Rant can for it.

Thanks for the offers. I'm ponderin'. So far, most of the accuracy tests I'm seeing are not substantially better than the EAA Witness Elite Match I already own. If I want to step up from that in a purely "production" gun, by the rules of the sport I'm thinking of, then I'll probably need to go with the Les Baer (and pay the upcharge for their "1.5 inches at 50 yards" accuracy guarantee) or find an older Pardini.

I think you will have great luck with the eaa witness. They seem to be quite popular for your wants.
