Seems to be missing the heat shield but has most of the other pieces. What's the $250 difference between this one and the 590?

Mavericks used to be made in Mexico. There were a few other minor differences between them and the 500 series, I just can't recall them at the moment. I own a couple Mavericks, as well as 500s. No complaints about either.

In very simple terms, the Maverick (I believe it's made in El Paso, not Mexico, but close) and it's a stripped down, cheapened 500. Still a stout gun from what I've read (never held one myself though). The 500 is your basic all around Mossberg. VERY reliable. Never had mine malfunction ever. Wish I still had it ... but alas the thieving bastards stole it and it is no longer in my possession (but ~13 years of dependability). The 590 is a beefed up 500. Everywhere the 500 used a "cheaper" part to keep costs down, the 590 uses a beefed up part, IE the extractor is one of them, I believe.

All in all, any of the Mossbergs should be good to go and dependable.

Where is the 590 made? Do they share similar parts and if so are the 590 parts made in Mexico?

I have several Mossberg 88's and 500's and have taken them all apart. Aside from the location of the safety and price, I can't see any difference in them. Barrels interchange 100%. They're made in Eagle Pass, TX.

Might have to pick up one or two at that price. I have had a 590 for 15 years and have wanted a second.

Aw man, they are over $200 now? It was only a couple years ago you pick one up for $180... Nothing is wrong with them; just a lot of bang for your buck. Made in TX, too!
