Even the wife got a good laugh at this one... The thing that got me though was the elbow sticking out like she wanted it shot off, and the angle of her wrist... I know that couldnt be comfortable for long...

Given her stance/orientation to the threat, elbow out or elbow down isn't an issue since she would be presenting the same about of target area to the threat. Note that she is bladed to the target and not squared off. If she was squared off to the threat (cqb style), then the elbow in would present less target area.
But hey, if elbow out causes the bad guy to try to shoot her in her non-vital elbow instead of her COM vitals, then that would be a defensive benefit, would it not?
