.308 Win. is my preferred caliber. Winchester mod. 70 Stainless Classic with B.O.S.S. It has taken coyotes, hogs, whitetail.
My son has dropped several does with .243 Win. Rossi single shot.
6mm Remington was what I used before. Remington mod. 600. Some S.O.B. liked it better than I did, (stolen). Wish I could get another. Was my first deer rifle.

This year it was 7.62x54, with a sporterized MN. My favorite caliber, in general, is 30-30 with 30-06 a close 2nd.

That is a good looking mosin nagant! what kind of groups do you get with that rifle.

I had 1.5 in. groups when I bench fired it in August. 165gr. Nosler balistic tip over 47 grains of hodgdon Varget in Graf & Sons brass.
I also bedded the action and free floated the barrel last summer.

I have a 30-06 Weatherby and it has served me well. My next rifle will be a .270. I'd also like to get a 22-250 for varmint hunting.

My buddy has an old Ruger in .243 that we have given the name "Wondergun" because he just never seems to miss with that thing.

I have taken deer with 243,25/06 30-30, 6.5x55, 30/06, 270,308,7mm mag,300 win, & 300wby.mag My alltime favorite is my browning ss stalker! I do agree that shot placement is better than size of cal. But, the larger cal. will certainly put em down also!

I prefer one of my .308's for deer. That being said, I've killed lots of deer with numerous calibers. Shot my first 6 deer with a British .303 with irons. Took a doe at 300 yards with the British .303 at 12 years old in fact. These days, I used my Ruger M77, Savage 10 or Remington 700P.

I think .308 is the way to go here with TX deer. I am doing neck shots from here on out also.. I cleaned multiple deer this season the majority of which I did not shoot and I saw a lot of shoulder shots and good heart shots with different calibers.. I also saw a ton of mutilated shoulder meat which means tons of blood everywhere and so on. Many know im sure I guess Its just hard breaking what you have been doing for years.

Being from MN originally, I have used many different guns as well as bows. Though I have never owned or hunted with one, the .30-06 is a great all around gun. My personal favorite is my 7mm Benchrest Mag, which is a 7mm bullet in a 30-30 casing. Low velocity with a big punch and very little damage.
Another great gun for brush and the occasional long shot is the 30-30, of which I have a Marlin. The 300 Win is a big gun for the game in my opinion and shouldn't be needed with a proper shot (especially here). I used mine hunting Oryx and Elk, but never deer.
