They all pretty much are directly, or undirectly have their genesis in the M1 Garand rifles.

    M14 rifle

    M14 rifle
The M14 rifle, officially the United States Rifle, 7.62 mm, M14,[62] is an American selective fire automatic rifle that fires 7.62×51mm NATO (.308 Winchester) ammunition. The M14 rifle is basically an improved select-fire M1 Garand with a 20-round magazine.[63][64][65] The M14 rifle incorporated features of both the M1 rifle and the M1 Carbine, including the latter's short stroke piston design originally developed by Winchester Arms.

Can’t say I agree as the BM59 is based on the Garand, which is not the same as the M14 platform.

    Nice rifles, though.
the italians took less time (5 years) to throw a box magazine onto a Garand while it took the americans (10 years) to make an inferior rifle that is the M14

The M14 only came about because SA tried to improve the Garand, but they didn't know what they were doing.

It was a gov't agency desperately trying to remain afloat

Mine was a standard with synthetic stock. Then added a walnut, then set it in a chassis. Absolutely loved to ring steel with that rifle. I would giggle every ping!

I decided to get out of .308 and sold it to a TGT member.

Mine is a MA9229 Loaded model which a had a synthetic stock when purchased. I later changed it for a walnut stock from SA. I also purchased an MA92NRACMS model which has yet to be fired.

That’s true, but the BM59 is essentially a Garand with a detachable box magazine whereas the M14, while based on the Garand, is not. It incorporates different features and is not based on a full-length .30-‘06 receiver.

Both are great rifles, but just not the same.

I picked up my M1a last month for my birthday. I almost folded and went with a standard, but held out for the Scout Squad with the Walnut stock. I'm thinking about suppressing it buy my LGS gunsmith recommends against it. So I don't know yet. I've only put 20 rounds through it at the indoor range. Needless to say I won the the noise competition that hour.

.So, someone said there could be a problem shooting .308 out of an M1 because of softer primers as opposed to 7.62x51 NATO ammo. Is there a rifle, very similar to an M1, that is specifically chambered for .308?

I've never heard that. What is common is people milking the trigger an unintentionally bump firing, or people lube the hammer hooks.

The real solution is to get a Garand in .30-06 like God intended

I wouldn't call it common, but it is a thing according to internet lore.

You’ll hear pros and cons on this subject many times. Yes, Mil-Spec 7.62 NATO is made to higher standards and the primers are thicker and crimped. The firing pin on a M1A is free-floating, so a softer primer may possibly cause a slam fire. But many shoot .308 Win in them all day long without issues.

Just don’t shoot soft points as the exposed lead tip can shave off pieces of lead. A few for hunting purposes is fine, just not 500 rounds.

I thought I read about cracking receivers on them. Could be the machine guns only. Then there's the over priced magazines!
the M14s had cracking receivers and also have overpriced magazines, the BM59 in all aspects is a fine fighting rifle made by italians based off the M1 garand while the M14 was bubbafornicated to hell and back.

So just curious, how many M14's have you owned? Or M1A's for that matter?

Are you some expert on M14's, or just perpetrating second, or possibly even third-hand information?

Please by all means elaborate on your expertise of these firearms. I'm sure others would be interested as well.
