All of the previous replies carry some good information. Some better than others, but I read nothing wrong as far as I know.

There definitely are inert or fake cans available. I have one that I use for display on guns that have threaded barrels.

Going back to the original question........ when it's called a silencer (misnomer).

That's what it's labeled in the National Firearms Act of 1934 and the Gun Control Act of 1968. Kind of like referring to an undocumented immigrant as an illegal alien. I have a registered "suppressor". On the ATF Form 4 it says Silencer...not muffler, or can, or suppressor. It's not very silent, though.

And I guess you call Jan. 6th an insurrection, because that's what they called it.

Who is they? I don't see the "mostly peaceful protests" at the Capitol being properly described as an insurrection based on any existing Federal laws. Only death was another White veteran victim of black supremacist police violence. Say her name! :roflfunny:

The government and the media. Certainly you aren't living under a rock, are ya?

I refuse to use words that don't properly describe or misrepresent a thing or action. A suppressor suppresses sound, it doesn't silence it. Call it a riot or an unruly mob, not an insurrection.

    Different Countries use different words.
In England, a device on a motorcar exhaust to make it 'quieter' is called a SILENCER.

All my old British car repair manuals refer to this as a SILENCER. We in the US call it a muffler.
