Yep, neighbor had one as a daily driver in the 70's and early 80's. I've only seen one or two at some car shows since.^^Nash Metropolitan? Haven't seen one of those in years.

I don't think I had ever seen one before. So, what would be the vintage of the one I posted? Late 50's?Yep, neighbor had one as a daily driver in the 70's and early 80's. I've only seen one or two at some car shows since.
Made mid-50's to early 60's though I couldn't tie a specific year to that one. My neighbors looked like a typical 15+yo car but it ran good. Odd looking but my other neighbor had an early 70's Honda CVCC (Civic) that was a junker. It did say "Metropolitan" on the side. I did not get a close look at the make logo on the front. It was parked in short term parking a t the SA airport yesterday. Very compact. And in nice shape.
Went to a car show in Sugarland years ago, a guy had a really nice restored Checker cab. Gas station I hung at serviced Checkers back in the 60's. Remember the fold up seats in the back?I always wanted a Checker Metropolitan and you don't see many of them even when Checker was still building.
This being the "Pretty Car" thread, I have to say that Checkers looked right to me. I guess it was all those movies and seeing them used as cabs in NYC. They weren't exactly pretty but they had a utilitarian correctness to them.Gas station I hung at serviced Checkers
I think if you had seen the car I mentioned at the car show you might change your mind, it was pretty. This being the "Pretty Car" thread, I have to say that Checkers looked right to me. But the stretched Checkers, whether 4-door or 6-door or whatever configuration, always looked totally wrong to me. Those things were universally ugly.
I've seen lots of stretched versions, factory and custom, of many different vehicles. I've never seen another vehicle whose looks were always so completely destroyed once the wheelbase started to get longer.
I've always thought that this peculiarity in the way I perceived Checkers was very odd...but I'll stand by it.
Well, won't be parking that on the street in front of my house. Might fit in the driveway if I will make the turn. It's not really pretty and I'm not sure it's even a car (where could you drive it?), but saw this article today and thought of this thread (I know, supposed to be actual cars we see....):
World's longest car is found, restored, and made even longer
We will never complain about finding a parking spot again. The "American Dream," now stretches to more than 100 ft (30.5 m), seats more than 75 people, and has its own pool, diving board, jacuzzi, bathtub and mini-golf course. Oh, and a helipad.newatlas.us1.list-manage.com
Who wants to buy tires for it????
This is what I'm talkin' about! Love the 57-60 Fridges
They've been automatic only since 2007 so might as well be electric nowMaserati just announced that they’ll be all-electric by the end of the decade
