I am looking to sell a few long guns for a family friend. Where can I go for an honest appraisal in Denton to N. Fort Worth area.

If they are regular, non-collectible firearms, look at the completed (successfully sold) auction results on Gunbroker.com

If they are collectible, you'll have to post the list in order to get an idea of who the subject matter experts might be.

... or the next day. I have come across a WWII Browning pistol, 1956 or 57 Winchester lever action .30 .30, Winchester 9422M XTR .22 Win Mag, Remington Woodmaster 742 in .308 and a Remington Model 41 .22S/L/LR. One more question. The pistol came with a few rounds of 9MM Luger. Is this different from the 9MM in modern pistols?
I will do my best to upload photos.

The "luger" 9mm is the same as the most common today.

The Browning and the Winchesters and the Remington woodmaster deserve proper inspection and appraisal.
The Remington 41 I'm not familiar with. Just have it appraised too. That won't add much to the overall cost and may be quite beneficial.

I'm personally interested in the Winchester 30-30.
    Good luck to your friend.

    Out here by the lake!
The old Winchester 30/30 + the 22 mag & the Browning High Power are the ones with some value 9 mm luger is the same as modern 9 mm. I would say just keep them unless you really hurting for money

Back to OP. Any recommendations for local appraisal. I am a little north of Denton. Makes it easy to get to Dallas or Tarrant county.

I know everyone knows this but it needs to be repeated every time appraisals are mentioned.

If an appraiser offers to buy the firearms from you, the appraisal you got is worthless.

That was the in-a-nutshell version. I like for people to read the American Society of Appraisers code of ethics, at least part 7, starting on page 16, here. My sis was an auctioneer at one time and auction ethics, appraisals, and people getting screwed because they were in possession of stuff they didn't understand were things that were all too familiar to me at one time.

To do it yourself, where comparables are available, use them. The previous pointer to completed Gunbroker prices is a good one. Listing prices anywhere are fantasy and should be ignored.

To get it done properly, go here and fill in the form.

ETA: Something seems to be wrong with the search form. I tested it and it doesn't show a single appraiser in the United States for firearms. I'll check further and write back.

ETA 2: Well, crap. It appears only one person in the U.S. is keeping a current ASA certification in personal property appraisals with a specialty in firearms. He's in Colorado. I'll continue looking.

ETA 3: Wow, this market is garbage. There are some real rip-off artists out there with web sites who want to take your money to feed you garbage info about your guns.

I'm punting. Hopefully someone in your area will chime in with personal knowledge of someone else in your area who can help.

I do appraisals regularly, and buy for a large percentage of that appraisal if I am forced to do so...but prefer working off a percentage of the final sale price so my shop has some skin in the game to get maximum value!

That said, that German occupation manufactured Browning is a neat gun even with the wrong grips, and I would buy it for myself ;)

Any information on the provenance of that Browning pistol would be helpful. And I would be interested in it as well.
