My personal preference would be to not keep them within easy access say for passengers in your car, or in the unfortunate event of getting pulled over. I say throw them in a bag (of dildos of course) and toss it in the trunk :-)

Overhead console. Last time I got stopped my son and I were heading on a hog hunting trip. Blew by a Super Trooper with my son saying "Trooper" over and over and me not snapping to it until it was too late. Turned on all interior lights and opened all windows. Told him right of we were on a hunting trip, what we had and where the license ansld insurance was located. He was pretty cool with things. He laughed about me not snapping to my son's warnings.
