I have been reading up on this fairly extensively and also listening to some comnentators on Russia/Putin.
This thing has the potential to spin out of controll very quickly into a much broader territory grab by Russia.

The USA is sitting on the sideline with O twiddling his thumbs threatening economic sanctions. Putin is looking to cripple us economicly and China could support them as Putin is courting them.
If we loose the dollar as the global currency in commodities the US will crash when the dollar crashes.

Honestly I am a little more than concerned with O at the helm. He is no match for Putin and we have pissed on and off our allies and our enemies all the while spending wrecklessly and dismantling our military not only in size but also its capabilities.

Honestly we are a much weaker nation than we care to face or admit. We can't hold up our agreements on protecting those that we have vowed to protect.

This very well could be a very historical 2014.

Once we begin outsourcing and shipping manufacturing overseas it was the beginning of the end, add to that a liberal education system all together spells disaster.

We have been stuffing money into China and mainly the Europeans into Russia.

They are flush with cash and are going to be emboldened and start making some moves.

I know where Putin stops - non-vagina countries that have a military and power to use it. It sucks for those former red states but they knew this day would come. America will stay awesome because socialism doesn't work. Someone should tell that to Obama, dems, and Eastern Europe.

Here's my thing. If America went into a country that wanted to secede to protect them, it would be democracy and defending the weak. But when Russia does it, it's a territory grab?

    That's where I'm stuck.

People in Crimea voted to join with Russia. It seems that's what they want.

Now of course, Obama gives little thought to the will of the people and definitely would not consider this vote to be valid because that would mean secession is a valid option for states who no longer wish to be part of their current nation for whatever reason.

Can we really call Putin the bad guy when a majority of the people are saying "this is what we want"?

I can understand that there are other reasons that may make it less than optimal for Putin to have control of that region, but the people there aren't exactly putting up a fight, it would be all over the news if they were, even in isolated pockets.

If he makes a move in to the Ukraine, it will be a completely different story.

Course I haven't been able to keep up with it lately, only catching bits and pieces.

Not quite. Russias economy is strongly based in fossil fuels. Theu supply the EU with massive amounts of fossil fuels. Theyre not really a goods producer per say like China is.

Yes, Crimean Ukraine may have voted to join Russia, but that's because Stalin kicked the ethnic Tartars/Ukrainians out of the region and moved in ethnic Russians.

Stalin killed millions of Ukranians through starvation mostly, then moved in Russians. So it's kind of tricky. Who's land is it anyways?

Does anyone see a parallel of this with the Sudetenland, Hitler and Chamberlin?

...which was sort of a major precursor to WW II....

The parallels are there. Putin wanting to "protect" the ethnic Russians echoes Hitler's wanting to "protect" the ethnic Germans in, first, Austria and then the other countries he later invaded.

Obastard is already coming under fire for his cancellation of the missile "shields" that were going to be put in the Czech Republic and Poland and it's really too late to think of trying to do it now....unless the assets are stored in Germany. Assuming, of course, that Obastard would even consider doing that. More likely, he'll just sit back while Putin takes those countries (to "protect" the ethnic Russians living there) and, instead continue filling out his bastardball brackets.

Absolutely. The world sat back and watched Hitler take more and more small areas of land...but thats it, no more, now we will have piece in our time. Also think about what Hitler did. Annex these areas then take down their border defenses...all the more easy to invade and yes Putin is smart, knows this, and is doing the same in Crimea. Now it is interesting how easily they do think compared to their struggles with Chechnya. Different native (or imported) population though.

Putin is already "on the record" stating that the worst thing that happened in the 20th century was the fall of the Soviet Union (his former bosses). So now he's in the process of reconstituting that empire and no one on this planet seems to have the balls to stop him. The current administration in Washington is as useless as tits on a boar hog and the E.U. is mostly dependent on Russian gas and oil so Putin pretty much has the world by the ass.
