I have the Benchmade Mini-Griptillian and the Benchmade 530.

I find myself carrying the 530 more due to its thin profile. It's a great EDC knife for me.

    I like both knives though.

The 530 is pretty cool and insanely lightweight. I had one for a little while. On the flip side, it is a THIN blade, and I have some serious doubt whether it could take much abuse at all.

Wife just got me a mini griptilian as well, I feel it locks up great. Nice and tight. We'll see how it holds up over the years, but for day one I'm liking it a lot.

Does that mini grip lock up tightly when open?

    Yes.

It works just fine for what I use it for: EDC. I'm not batoning wood with it or trying to stab people to death.

I love my mini griptillian, about due for a sharpening though I don't baby it at all and it's held up to some abuse.

It's comfortable. I've found the blade profile to be useful for pretty much everything I've needed. It does all I need.

Recognize, though, that I'm no knife aficionado. I'm just an everyday user and I'm sure my standards aren't the highest.

So far, my favorite folder by far is the CRKT Otanashi Noh Ken (ONK). It's not a folder I'd use for any utility stuff, but mainly just defensive use. If you have to use a folder, it's pretty damn large, intimidating, with a blade profile that offers a great deal of penetration and slashing ability. I love this thing!

BTW, if anyone is interested and in the Austin area for the next Friday lunch meetup, I can bring that CRKT ONK as well as several of the fixed blades I have from my friend Joe Watson of JW Knives / Centex Blade Works if anyone wants to check them out.

Fixed is definitely the way to go IMO, if you can make it work and carry it in a realistic position. Horizontal on the belt line seems to be one of the easiest and most comfortable ways.

I have had a Mini Barrage for about a year and love it. The Axis Assist is really nice. It replaced a Mini Griptilian that is my spare. I am looking at picking up a full size soon so will keep tabs on this thread.
