I am guessing that the "460" he is referring to is a S&W 460 revolver and 40 rounds of the parent cartridge.
The revolver is either broken or in pieces because IMO $1200 is too low.

Purely an observation on my part. With the "pandemic" , and the problems with other gun forums, and such, there was a somewhat of influx of new members coming to TGT, many of them just looking to avail themselves of using the free classifieds. What I observed is that many were either requiring a BOS a condition of sale, or then spring that little factoid on the buyer when they finally met up in person to complete the transaction. There were even a few that wanted to take a picture of the buyer's DL or LTC as a condition of sale.

I think my views or opinions on a BOS are pretty well known to most here. I also believe the seller has the right to demand whatever conditions they desire as part of the transaction and the buyer has the choice in either meeting those conditions, or passing the sale up.

My only gripe is, that the seller should be upfront in their ad to sell of whatever conditions are part of the transaction, and not reveal them at the time of meeting to complete the transaction. That is poor manners IMO.

There have been a few guns that have popped up in the Classifieds that caught my attention, but as soon as a BOS was a requirement for the transaction, I lost any interest in buying. I can walk into a gun store tomorrow, fill out a Form 4473, pay my money and walk out with a gun. There is nothing that prohibits me from buying, except for the size of my wallet!

I have done a few private transactions of guns over the years, with no problems, and no BOS required on either parties part. I have backed out of a sale because something just felt "off" about the person.

    Just my observances and experiences.

Pre-pandemic pricing, I have seen them as low as $700 for very lightly used S&W 460 revolvers.
    Yes... pre-pandemic I agree 100%.
This is what I was thinking the conversation was about at first glance.

Then again, who knows what model they were choking on gnats on.
    This is "today's" pricing also.
