Springfield, Ruger, SIG, STI, Kimber - all good 1911 choices, as is Colt. My advice is still to avoid the Series 80 and go with the Series 70 or one of the alternatives with that trigger design.

I bought my Series 80 stainless 1911 in the early 80's soon after they made it to the market. It has thousands of rounds without any after market parts except a full length guide rod. The guide rod never proved to make any difference but I don't see any reason to remove it. The only real advantage is I can pull the whole slide assembly off without field stripping to replace it with my 22 conversion at the range. The only part I have ever needed to replace was the slide stop because I lowered it on an empty chamber too many times. That is something I no longer do with any firearm!
