I'm making some progress on my neighbors to take a basic handgun course, but I haven't paid much attention to what is offered these days. So I'm looking for some help to find a top notch course/instructor that I can refer them to. This is a family of three, father, mother and teenage son. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    2nd vote for KR Training.

Karl runs great classes with his inhouse instructors and he has a ton of connections to the national touring circuit of trainers (i.e. Gabe White, Tom Givens, Mas Ayoob, etc). I'm a big fan.

Make sure whomever you pick is certified through either NRA or USCCA. As a certified NRA instructor, I can tell you that the course is very well laid out and is great for families with younger children. A good safe instructor will insist that there be no live ammunition allowed during the classroom portion of the course... Also some instructors will allow children under a certain age to attend the class portion for free.
