Ouch.Took the Garand out again yesterday. 1st time out was a mixed bag. 5 moa at 100 yards and occasional short stroke or dead primer. Was using some 1957 surplus. Yesterday I used some 1970s Lake City. 2 Moa at 100 using iron sights and had no problem hitting a 6 inch plate at 200 yards with easy repeatability. All my issues were just crap ammo. Took it home and did a full disassemble and re grease. It's slicker than owl shit now. The action must be moving faster, because I got my first Garand thumb afterwards.
Being slick is not the issue. The bolt was not locked all the way back. Garand thumb happens when the bolt is resting on the follower.Took the Garand out again yesterday. 1st time out was a mixed bag. 5 moa at 100 yards and occasional short stroke or dead primer. I always thought Garand Thumb happed the same way you shank a golf ball, or dropped a high fly ball. You looked it off.Being slick is not the issue. The bolt was not locked all the way back. Garand thumb happens when the bolt is resting on the follower.

Shit that hurts way over here.View attachment 378325
It was locked all the way back, but I was sticking my thumb deep down into the magwell so the bolt would release from being locked. Forgot to hold the charging handle back with the side of my hand.
it drew blood. We're kin nowS

That'd be another way to do it. I jumped to that conclusion because it is the most common contributing factor that I have seen.View attachment 378325

Due to a hand injury in January (while rebuilding my motorcycle engine), I cannot shoot right now and have not shot since January.
However, at least I get my fix when I go with students and watch them shoot.
Last one was an older lady who went from 8" grouping left and low to a nice more manageable 2 inches in the bullseye. (B-27 @ 7yds)
If that doesn't make you feel good, I am not sure what will.
I can't wait to go shoot by myself. Doctor says in a few months. NOT happy.
Post some pictures to make me feel good, pretty pretty please.
