Wife watched it and called me in for the highlights. That thing was dropping like a rock until it did the clamshell separation and essentially turned itself into both a Sikorsky S-64 and payload, which I thought was pretty a damn elegant way to stick the landing.

Did it lower the rover from a hover? I saw a graphic a while back and cannot remember.

Was it real or simulation landing? Cameras usually record and wait to transmit. Then NASA has to reconstruct before release.

Yes watched it yesterday. Next step is getting a soil sample putting it on the surface where it will be picked up and a rocket brings it back to Earth, pretty amazing.

They had some really amazing simulations. They also had some pictures from an orbiting platform, one showing the descent under the 'chute. And some early pics already transmitted of the landscape. I don't think it's waiting, except that more pics will be coming.

Got to see EDL video. Pretty cool.

SN10 might launch tomorrow if static fire goes well today.

Good one Sidebite. Wind sounds just like it does in Texas. Dry and dusty like Texas, even has potholes too. You really expect Mars to be made of different stuff? Another expensive hunk of scrap on Mars.
