Short answer: because we don't need "hate" crimes. This is a crime. Prosecute them. If it is particularly heinous, make sure we give them the max penalty.

We have had laws and crimes for centuries. It's only in the last decade or so that the woke were here to "fix" our system. They do love to play with words, though...

Actually, for the purposes of these mugshots and the video recreation of the crimes, they took a page from the Jussie Smollett play book and hired black actors to play traditionally white roles.

Agreed. In this case, my understanding is that the perpetrators targeted specifically Asian females.
Now, did they target them because they hate them? Or because they posed low risk and offered high reward? Hard to tell without asking the perps and getting them to answer honestly (not gonna happen).
So just like with trying to prove intent in court, it is hard to prove hate in court because both are in the person's mind, not apparent from the outside.

However, I agree with the overall sentiment in this thread. Had the perps been white, this would AUTOMATICALLY become a hate crime and the overused "white supremacy" label would be attached for good measure. It all depends on the DA, his/her political leanings and of course media's perception.

In some cases yes. It allows them the opportunity to go after someone again. IMO, that allows then a second chance to go after someone they think didn't get punished, or punished severely enough.
