If only government had never gotten into the business of marriage in the first place. /sigh
Our marriage laws are mostly holdovers that we inherited from English common law. The law's original intent was to uphold the "contract" of marriage. The progressives and socialists are the ones that wanted to use marriage laws to produce good citizens and increase the tax base. It's only become a moral issue in very recent times.

It would be good if government just got out of marriage regulation all together. People could go full contract with it if they wanted or just jump a broom. It's really not anyone's business other than the people wanting to be married.

While I think that everyone who is not a criminal should have equal rights, this story is disturbing and that male has broken the law if your story is true. Male body parts should never be in a women's bathroom while the bathroom is occupied by females. Same goes for the opposite.

The conversation of gay male athletes in showers of professional and college teams came up on sports radio 1200. The caller asked "if a gay man can shower with guys, I want the right to shower with women." The host replied "no your argument is flawed. Men and women have different genitals." Another good case study of homosexuals in the showers of sports teams is gay women in women's sports. It's prevalent and there are 0 stories reported of teammates hooking up or even sexually advancing on their teammates in the showers. That's when I realized where the line is clearly drawn separating rights from overstepping boundaries and breaking laws. No dicks where there are vaginas. It's as easy as that.

DiveRN - the gay SF experience with your kid is horrendous. Freedom is one thing. Lewd behavior is not tolerated by the laws in normal places but it seems that SF was too left leaning to protect you and your child from gay lewdness and possible male nudity in public. I guess Cali is too worried about important stuff like bullet buttons, muzzle breaks, collapsible stocks, 'banana clips', air quality, v8s, and being smug towards conservatives.

There are place today where a "transgendered" person can use whichever restroom he/she pleases. It's only a matter of time before something bad happens.

The only common sense law should stay if you have a d keep it out of women's bathrooms. If you have a v keep it out of men's bathrooms. Same with gym showers.
Trans/gay whatever doesn't fly if people see your junk and don't want too.

Two reasons gay marriage pretty much needs to be legalized:

1.) Too many wills are successfully challenged against the wishes of the deceased gay partner.

2.) A lot of hospitals refuse gays visiting rights, even when their partners are on their death beds.

This has already happened; still not a valid reason to deny anyone their rights. People made the same arguments about integrated bathrooms.

People shouldn't be looking at each others junk in the bathroom anyway. If a TV is flaunting it they deserve the same reaction as anyone else.

What "Rights" are being denied Homosexuals? If marriage is a "Right", then please show me where in the Constitution the "Right" to marry is guaranteed.

I apologize for the pissed off tone of my piece. I'm just tired of hearing libertarians constantly tell me that I need to accept their beliefs because it's "constitutional." BS.

I don't think you had a "pissed off tone". Actually, I think your's was a very well thought out and reasoned reply.

Gays have been around forever and are and have been about 2-5% of the population.

What has happened in the past few years has been a FEDERAL GOVERNMENT control of marriage and minorities. The FEDS have passed laws to put minorities in a special class of people. The purpose of this was twofold: 1) Give them special privileges to garner votes and 2) in order to weaken the Constitution and negate "We the People".

So what is the goal? Its a singular goal of CONTROL of the people, NOTHING ELSE. So how do they get a grip on the huge white population in the US, simple, give the minorities special rights and privileges by making them a protected class of people, putting them at the head of the line for govt largesse.

Problem is not with gays, but with GOVERNMENT!

ok... So do you advocate using government to enforce your religious beliefs?

Bacon is illegal in parts of Israel. That's all I need to know about government enforcing religious beliefs.

Sure of that, do you have a ref?

I was just in Israel and while those Jews who are more orthodox do in fact comply, there are many who do not and yes I ate plenty of bacon in Israel, it and many other non orthdox products are sold across the country. Not sure its illegal...

The Right should accept everyone who wants limited .gov and personal freedoms.
The .gov needs to get out of peoples bedrooms.

I agree, and what group of people are inviting them in that we are discussing here in the first place?

where are the flamers yelling at California Dems with a Pink AR15, i would take their ideology a little more serious if they understood the basic concepts of what it is to be free and have rights. You would think most flamers would prefer a pistol grip than a thumbhole stock but i could be wrong. :) anyway its not my place to judge, thats up to God, but I do have the right to not like it. And i do have the right not to support anyone that would give away a truckload of freedoms so he/she/it could have one freedom is not to bright in my book.

Oh... I think I was confusing it with this this: The Yeshiva World Pork Sale is Now Illegal in Netanya « » Frum Jewish News

Jerusalem probably is a bit too cosmopolitan to outlaw it, but there are cities in Israel that do. ...and of course beer is illegal in most Muslim countries. My dad used to brew his own beer (quite illegally) when we were in Saudi. He was probably relatively safe only drinking and trading it in the ex-pat compound but he probably would have had his foot cut off or something if he had been caught outside the compound with it.

I think you have things backwards, you want government to enforce your atheist beliefs. Government shouldn't countenance marriage at all, either straight or gay. Who taught you bacon is illegal in Jerusalem? I did a tour with the Canadian Military Engineers in Israel from '99 - 2000 and visited Jerusalem many times...and all of Israel. The only thing I couldn't get was a Cheeseburger at McDonalds because dairy and meat mixed isn't Kosher.

I openly drank beer many times in Syria, Jordan, and Egypt and bought Arak ( think Ouzo) in a liquor store across the highway from the international airport in Damascus. I've been to three Moslem countries and all allowed beer, wine and liquor sales and consumption.

I agree with you that government shouldn't countenance marriage at all. I don't want government to enforce much of anything, and definitely not anything based on any beliefs. That's sort of the whole point of this thread and that article. Using government to enforce beliefs is the realm of leftists.

I was wrong about Jerusalem, but there are parts of Israel that outlaw pork.

oh, and "atheist beliefs"... oxymoron, much?
