FL has started the process to have constitutional carry law in 2023.

From WPTV News; Florida House Speaker Paul Renner, R-Palm Coast, announced Monday morning [Jan 30th] that the bill, which if passed, would allow gun owners to carry concealed without needing a state license.

Other news sources say LA, NE, NC, ND will have legislation for permitless carry introduced this year.

Not sure I understand that graphic. Many of the states which seem to be shown as constitutional carry are not.

This one appears to be accurate.

My question would be, does Florida have a state law preemption like Texas? Otherwise I could see them having a ton of municipalities banning unlicensed carry in their city limits.

Preemption of Local Laws in Florida

When you have Giffords creating an article crying about it, I think it's safe to say that they do lol

Following these preemption statutes, Florida courts have struck down several local regulations of firearms.
Florida courts have read the Florida Constitution Art. 1. section 8(a) state right to bear arms itself to further preempt the field of firearms regulation. In Florida Carry, Inc. v. University of North Florida, the Court of Appeal of Florida held that the Florida legislature had not delegated its authority to regulate the manner of bearing arms to state universities and struck down a university regulation prohibiting the carrying of encased firearms within motor vehicles parked on a university campus.19 This reading of the Florida Constitution’s right to bear arms provision was recently reaffirmed in Fla. Carry, Inc. v. City of Tallahassee.

Giffords can hold this fat L.

"Great Caesar's Ghost" says Perry White of the comics and movie (for those of certain age) Florida is really going to do it and pass constitutional carry. At least if you hear the FL Speaker of the House, the bill's sponsor and President of FL Sheriff's Association at this press conference. It was very refreshing to hear elected political leaders champion 2A for all the best and right reasons. Note the sign on the podium. If passed and signed by Gov DeSantis his stature will improve in the 2A community.

Speaker Paul Renner unveils proposed legislation that will eliminate the need for a concealed weapons license in Florida. HB 543 is sponsored by Rep. Chuck Brannan, Chair of the Justice Appropriations Subcommittee.

The Four Boxes Diner channel has a few comments as there is more to the story than meets the eye. Devil in the details. One question will be if the new law will allow all non-residents that are not otherwise prohibited to carry/bear arms to carry without a permit. Right now one has to permit from another state that has reciprocity with FL. More news later.

They may have included states that allow some form of permitless carry.

Oregon and Washington, for example, aside from certain cities that were allowed to maintain carry-bans without a permit, are permitless *open* carry. Concealed carry in those states requires a concealed handgun license.

So if we look at *any* / *all* permitless carry schemes, I think that graphic is showing the states where at least one form of permitless carry is allowed.

"...the measure has gotten a big boost and a thumbs up from the state’s Police Chiefs Association, which has now come out in support of the idea...In its statement of support for permitless carry, the Florida Police Chiefs Association didn’t point to one particular piece of legislation, instead saying that the group “supports permitless constitutional carry and looks forward to working with Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida legislature on this important issue.”

Previously the FL Sherriff's Association had endorsed the bill.

would Fla become the 26th state?

the more I learn about Desantis, the more there is to like about him
Best chance of any state being #26 with the governor and leadership in the FL legislature in favor of bill. Future states passing such laws probably limited to those with republican trifecta. Election majority makes all the difference.

The sausage (new proposed law) making its way through FL legislature.
"A Republican measure to allow people to carry concealed weapons without a permit in Florida continues to move forward in the legislature, even though the bill has received broad public opposition, including from gun rights groups...Permitless carry bills in the House and Senate wouldn’t allow people to openly carry firearms."

    From the Bearing Arms blog;
"White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre took aim at the governor’s support for permitless carry; invoking the recent shootings in Orange County, Florida that left three people, including a local reporter, dead."

The post provides a comparison of crime stats between FL and DE.

    From Bearing Arms blog:
While there’s not much doubt that permitless carry legislation will get to Gov. Ron DeSantis for his signature, there’s still some question about what the bill will actually look like in its final form....Havana’s Luis Valdes recorded DeSantis Thursday night saying that he supports allowing Floridians to openly display firearms in public, but DeSantis doesn’t believe lawmakers will be willing to amend a permitless carry bill moving in the House.

“Yeah, absolutely,” DeSantis is heard to say when asked whether a permitless carry bill HB 543 should be amended to allow people to carry and display firearms in most public places.

I am sure every piece of legislation that is being considered is under the microscope of will it hurt/help nomination and election as POTUS if he chooses to run.

The Giffords ad shows two men, one red and one blue. Both are carrying firearms. The headline of the ad asks, “Can you spot the difference?” The two men stand toe-to-toe, and appear to be arguing.

Author of blog post provides his scenario of this situation; The argument between the two men escalates with blue guy escalating and threatening the life of red guy. Because blue guy represents a threat to life, red guy presents his firearm, ready to defend himself. Seeing that red guy has come to the party armed and ready, blue guy decides he’d be better off anywhere but standing at the end of red guy’s muzzle.
