My dad's wife had one. Im gonna guess 2-3 Mbps in a non-LTE area. The data cap sucks for what you're paying a month. Im sure its the same speed as your smartphone. Download speedtest app and take reading at different times and locations and Im gonna bet thats what the hotspot will do.

I use one every day and travel all over Texas with it.

It works awesome in North Texas, West Texas, Central and South Texas but not so much in East Texas (Piney Woods area).

Speeds vary by location but I am very satisfied with it after using a AT&T device for years.

I've got the 10G plan and very rarely exceed the plan.

Why would anyone get this when you can get 30-50 mbs tethering your phone?

Not everyone can tether, most cell companies require you to pay extra to tether. Most people haven't a clue in regards to jailbreaking or rooting and the finer intricacies custom roms

I have a Verizon 4G LTE hotspot that I use daily to connect my laptop to the office. Works great and has really good speed... but I don't know what the actual speed is. No complaints with it.
