    From TFA:

"Brudi said she was rummaging through her purse when she accidentally set off the .38 caliber Derringer pistol... Police said Brudi did not have the weapon in a holster... Officers saw no intent to discharge the weapon, so they issued her a citation for Discharge of Firearm where Prohibited – a city ordinance violation."

I'm assuming, then, that she had a CHL. She's a very, very, very lucky woman who very much needs instruction on safe gun handling. I can't imagine the trigger pull on that gun being light if the description is right.

Yea, I have a derringer, and the pull isn't bad, but it's a different kinda feel than a regular trigger. Plus, aren't all derringer's single action (mine is)? So was she carrying "cocked and unlocked"?

I gave my sister a Taurus .38 snub nose when she split with her husband. Few months later, she cocked it for some reason, didn't know how & didn't ask how to de-cock it and she shot her recliner trying to figure it out. Of course she's very lucky she didn't kill somebody and that her kids weren't home. I beat her up pretty good for it & I and paid for her to take the NRA basic course the next day...
    Hard lesson learned.

I couldn't think of a worse place for an un-holstered gun than in my wife's purse. She's got more crap in there than 10 commandos going out for a week. At least put it in one of the pockets by itself. geez.

I worked in a gun-store in my 20s and had a few folks bring in revolvers in that condition - most from handbags...
