Not sure if this has been addressed yet but just in case it hasn't, here it is:

Soldier is first female to complete JOTC | Article | The United States Army

Apparently, the Army is allowing women to be infantrymen (infantrywomen?). I'm not sexist by any means but I'm not sure if this is such a swell idea. The main issue with this is the fact that men are usually more physically capable and the Army is considering lowering the standard for PT tests. IMO, I believe women should have to pass the same requirements as men because I wouldn't want a woman trying to drag me off the battlefield if I were to take a bullet or flak. Not to mention what would happen to said women if they were captured by the enemy. I understand the whole women's rights movement but there are just some things that should be left alone.

    What do y'all think?

Dunno if I'd use the word "inferior" - especially if there's a woman within earshot! But I will say I've known some military women, and they generally oppose having the standards lowered for them as well.

    Edited.

Another issue is that most men will have a natural tendency to be more protective of a mixed squad than they would if it were just men per the usual. It would just be another unneeded distraction, if anything.

    Just like men.
Some ain't cut out for it, some will excel at it.

I agree but they shouldn't have to lower standards to achieve that. It should be the same, all-around test to assess mental and physical abilities of all individuals involved. This is a war setting where people go to fight other people. Not a public school where a standardized test is lowered to meet the needs of those who can't meet expected criteria.

Equal means equal. If we lower standards what does it mean? Answer- lower standards for our military. To be the best you literally have to be the best. Qualify on the same standards and be held the same as the person next to you.

Women got no business on the front lines, I am sorry. I don't consider myself sexist either. I have 2 daughters and a very strong womens rights active wife. I however served in a combatant command that integrated women and it COMPLETELY changes the dynamic of a unit, any unit. You can't take physical attraction out of teenagers, you can't discipline nature out of humans. Integration leads to more legal, and morale issues in a military unit.

As for physical requirements, if they can cut it then so be it. If you are hell bent on it, so be it. I just ask this....make them maintain the same grooming standards as men. If a man has to have short hair because of lice and hygiene then women should to. Unisex bathrooms and showers. Might as well get that out of the way too...2 of everything is a logistical issue and doesn't serve the war fighter.

Unisex it all, make it all equal, and the General or Admiral who signs off on it will do it knowing they are hindering your fighting ability.

In short, I think its like putting women on an NFL football squad, except its life and death for all. The military is NOT a social experiment, people's lives are on the line with these dumbass decisions.

    My 2cents.

Exactly. Like I said, I'm not against it but if they can do what men are required to do at the highest standards, power to 'em.

The obvious problem with this are the issues with sexual harassment and rape that have been so prevalent in the military. Like you said, the General will know the ramifications of this decision and should plan accordingly for any legal action that will ensue.

Right. Like I stated before, this isn't public school where requirements are lowered to be fair for those who cannot perform as expected. That kind of system is only headed for disaster by fostering weak links.

Many armies around the world have women in combat units. Israel, Denmark, Sweden, Viet Nam, and others. Women are more vicious than men and are just as capable of waging war as men.

I think that's a subjective way to look at it. I'm not disagreeing because I've met some crazy women but I don't believe the majority of women allowed on the front lines would be able to perform the same as men, hence why the military is lowering standards.

Badly written PC article: Jungle Operations Training is not just for Infantrymen. The female soldier is a commo specialist, and went through the training either on an individual slot or as part of a unit rotation.

Our fire support troops lived with the grunts and went through the same Expert Infantry Badge lanes as the Eleven Bravo's -- every time. When they qualified for the badge, they could not wear it because they were not Infantry. But they got the satisfaction that the accomplishment was noted by promotion boards.

Thirteen Foxtrots know fire and maneuver!

This "social experiment" to put women into direct combat will end badly.

I noticed that too but the point of this thread was to get an opinion from the TGT community on women as possible Eleven Bravo.

I reluctantly agree. Other countries may have women in combat but we don't and we've had the strongest military for two centuries. This is what happens when the equal rights activists get into areas not welcome to them.

I will hold off some of my feelings on the matter but the main gist of what I feel is if you're going to open combat arms to women it absolutely should be equal across the board. Same physical standards, same grooming standards, same promotion standards. Also I agree with V-Tach that if it goes to that then the selective service obligation should carry over as well. If you want equal rights that includes equal obligations. JMO

My thoughts exactly. They want equal opportunity, they should expect the guidelines to be exactly the same.

If you're cool with videos of U.S. Servicewomen being gang-raped by savages circulating the World Wide Web, then by all means, let them join men in the frontlines 'cause that is inevitable. I'm not. I hold a special place in my heart for the distaff side and wouldn't place them in harm's way.

I'm not cool with that. Just another reason why I would be even more distracted due to worrying about women and their safety. This is dangerous territory they're encroaching on.
