That’s how I feel about every single vote that went to Abbot in the primary.

Whatever your or hot wheels’ definition of conservative is sharply differs from mine. Remember, constitutionally the governor only has nine* powers.

    1. Signing or vetoing bills passed by the Legislature.
    2. Serving as commander-in-chief of the state's military forces.
    3. Convening special sessions of the Legislature for specific purposes.
    4. Delivering a report on the condition of the state to the Legislature at the beginning of each regular session.
    5. Estimating of the amounts of money required to be raised by taxation.
    6. Accounting for all public monies received and paid out by him and recommending a budget for the next two years.
    7. Granting reprieves and commutations of punishment and pardons upon the recommendation of the Board of Pardons and Paroles and revoking conditional pardons.
    8. Declaring special elections to fill vacancies in certain elected offices.
    9. Appointing qualified Texans to state offices that carry out the laws and direct the policies of state government.

    See Article 4, pp 111-119

*There’s a directive in Art 4 for the governor to cause the laws of the state to be faithfully executed and conduct state business among the states and the United States as permitted by state law. That’s not a power, it’s a directive.

As I stated above, Abbot should have been ousted in the primary, but he wasn't. Now we're stuck with him as the non-Beto candidate who has a chance of winning. I'm also well aware of the governor's responsibilities and the fact that Abbot has overstepped. But he's what we're stuck with, and the other option is Beto. And if the conservative vote gets split by a third party allowing Beto to waltz in, that's the left's foot in the door to flip the state as they've dreamed of doing for the last couple of decades. That's going to be the start of a long downhill roll toward Californication.

Overall both parties are taking us to the same destination. One is on a less comfortable, but more direct route, the other is slightly more scenic and entertains you along the way. In the end, neither party is for smaller government, your rights or you.

Perhaps I’ve read too much history. Both of those before our country and of those that founded ours. Now we bicker over which candidate is less for himself and less for screwing you while they attain power, prestige and riches. What happened to men that were willing to sacrifice their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor? Why should I not yearn for men that believed in a nation of laws and not men?

They more you pander to socialism lite, the farther they take it. Both parties, same destination.

I agree with Big Green there are no real men in the race. Today politic simply will not allow a strong man to lead, it is all compromise and trade offs. Fight to stop rulers above you.

Just look where Trump is today. Today you have to be smarter than them and build a team to fight for you.

In my opinion Beto is with the party wanting to rule over us.

Beto makes Wendy Davis look qualified.

Agreed. A 3-party system is not in our future, but a lesser of the two evils is, and we cannot change that today or by the next election. Allowing the Irish ass a seat on the throne would be a giant leap for californifacation.

He's not in Texas, and he's a long-term Democrat incumbent who split off to be juuuuust slightly less frothing-at-the-mouth liberal, so he was re-elected. He didn't come into the race from the beginning.
Must have missed the "must be from Texas" rule... ;)

Still waiting to hear how reelecting Abbott will benefit anyone in Texas other than Abbott, Phelan, and the Dems they placate.....

Preventing O'Rourke from being governor benefits all of us. You got a legitimate way to keep him out of office besides voting for Abbott?

And apparently you're not actually reading the replies around here, because it's been explained a few times. Just scroll up. Some of us have even gone into detail.

And there it is in a nut shell. Voting is the only legitimate way, at this point, to keep Beto out of office, vote. No fantasy, or tinfoil under the hat scenario can stop Beto, only a vote. This is the legitimate way to avoid the damage Beto will bring upon Texas. Is that not enough reason?
