I think people should be able to do whatever they want as long as is doesn't effect anyone else. If people want to sit on their couch and drink a beer...fine. If people want to sit on their couch and smoke a joint...fine. If people want to sit on their couch and blow lines...fine. The government (state and federal) should but out and let (if people so decide) people destroy their lives with drugs.

Sorry, for the medium, but I wasn't being serious.

I know that it is a continuum from true libertarian to True socialism.

Really no one is at either end.

I thought the : P might have indicated that.

I must have interpreted that wrong, and I do apologize. The libertarian movement is gaining ground, and I don't want anyone who peruses the forum to get the wrong idea from your comment that libertarians are for legalizing meth, coke, speed etc. I'm sure we have all the same ideals, I just like very little goverment probing up my ass.

For those of you narrow minded enough to think that the issue is NOT a taxation issue, then why is home distilled liquor illegal?

    Mhmm..

    Not 100%, IMHO.

Brewing your own beer is completely legal (and fun too). I think there is a strong society issue here.

Drinking alcohol and smoking tobacco have long been integrated into our culture. I believe that smoking is slowly on the way out (at least in the US).

Smoking weed has been associated with illegal activity.

I do brew my own beer, 12 gallons at a time. Jimmy Carter passed it while in office, but didn't go for the liquor. MAKING LIQUOR AT HOME IS STILL ILLEGAL DUE TO TAXATION. Beer and wine makes the government roughly 20% of the tax share in alcohol, the rest is in liquor. It's simple math, really.

So Texas42, lets review before we make another uninformed post. Beer & Wine=Legal to make at home. Liquor= Illegal to distill at home.

    Wow!
    Good shit man!!!!! ROFLMAO!!!!
Our government will never legalize MJ.
They are too dam stupid to compete with the drug cartels.
They would have to spend billions of dollars researching how to grow it. Several more billion to figure out how to package it. 800 million on advertising. 500 million of a distribution system. It would take 10 years to recoup the cost of the program start up in taxes made off the sell of the MJ.
    Why ???
Because they don't have enough sense to hire Juan down in south Los Angeles CA.to run the program!!!!
You know Juan and his family.
They get their welfare check 1st Monday of every month.

A manufactured drug is just that, a drug. Coke, meth, speed, heroin, and the like do not deserve immunity, because they are manufactured. Pot grows wild, and has for many, many thousands of years, and is an herb. The government has deemed it a drug because of the euphorias that it produces, and of course they cant control it like they control the manufacture and taxation of alcohol and tobacco.

Um, tobacco grows wild and has been processed in the same manner as marijuana plants. It's picked and dried, then rolled up and smoked. There is no difference to traditional methodology.

If marijuana became legal you can bet your ass that Marleyboro's would be right next to the Marlboro's.

This is true, but tobacco plants are not nearly as recognizable as MJ plants, especially to the untrained eye. I just dont understand why tobacco is legal and pot isnt. Just doesnt make any sense to me, except for the fact that it is illegal and therefore until it is legal, I will not touch the stuff. I think its just all a matter of semantics.

I can see the flip side, they will find every prisoner who is in for growin pot and make a new work release program

I have no issue with pot being legal.
    I've smoked in my youth.
It would be a great revenue stream to the Fed and yes a work release program would be a good thing.
Also we could turn lose all the folks in jail for selling and distribution and reduce the number of prisoners we now support through taxes.
I'll stand by what I said though. Our government is too stupid to develop and run the program efficiently.

I have seen first hand the destructive effects of pot. Anyone who buys the arguments that it is harmless, blah, blah, blah, either a) just wants to smoke without fear, b) seriously ill informed
    .
The same argument can be made for alcohol. I.e the drunk driver that killed my grandparents outside of Golthwait.
If it brings in more $ than coastal bermuda, I'd grow it. However, I'd still depend on you guys to smoke it.
It would definitely bring more than coastal hay. And I bet we'd get allot more youngsters involved with farming to.
This sounds like the same argument that popped up during the prohibition. The drug cartels would try and keep a hand in the market but would ultimately fail. Yes MadMo the gooberment is to stupid to compete with the cartels and their spending plan would be some astronomical number. But if they hired Juan as a consultant they would get their tax revenue and Juan would get rich.
