Know when it was born? Given that it was imported by Century, has it been rechambered in .308?

Honestly, looks like a nice Mas 49/56, if I was local to seller I would look it over and consider it. That is a very good price. Those 308 conversions were hit or miss. Some really were excellent jobs that ran perfectly. Many were terrible and would't function at all. I wouldn't buy a conversion unless I could fire it, or it was from someone I trusted who verified it would shoot reliably.

The Mas 49/56 was designed with a floating firing pin, with french surplus ammo (good luck finding that anymore) it was fine since they had hard primers. Any commercial ammo, be careful. I have seen double fires several times, and one mag dump. Ii was verified it was the primers, not the fire control group. Easy fix, reload using hard primers. Test your reloads by loading two rounds in the mag.

Whoever buys this will have an excellent battle rifle that many like more than the Garand. No, I'm not one of them.

F prefix rifles were between 1956 and 1958
G series were made between 1958 and 1960
H series were made between 1961 and 1963
No expert here, just trying to help a seller out. I think this data is correct. I could be wrong.
