    DOI was in 1776, we did not win War For Independence till 1783. Summer of 1776 we barely had an army and the only thing getting a lead treatment were the colonists asses.

    I think you missed the point. When we started shooting them, we were pretty much telling them to go away. We were doing a lot of that before July 4, 1776.

    I have always been taught that the "Shot heard around the World" was the start of the revolution that changed world history forever.

    Washington took control over the Continental Army as Commander in Chief a full year before the declaration.
