I've eaten fancy sandwiches at eateries all over but I think I'd have to say my absolute favorites are the ones I grew up with. Fried Spam with a slice of American cheese, or fried egg bacon and cheese, or fried bologna (Thick red rind). All on toasted white bread with a little mayo.

Oh, and cold bologna, cheese, mayo with lays potato chip sammichs are the bomb too.

All of these I only get to eat maybe once in a blue moon but every time I do the childhood memories of summer days spent at my grandparents house come rolling in.

No other sammie, I don't care how high fallutin, can have that effect for me.

I like the small deli shops. But for chains, really like Jersey Mikes #8 (roast beef). Don't do Mike's way. Do it my way. Bread reminds me of what I use to get when going to school in Philadelphia which is where I had my first sub. Also like steamed sandwiches but having them in Texas.

    ... Fish Creek, WI. ...

I THINK Moonpie meant Texas but if we're road trippin', I'm headed to Amsterdam for a "breathing treatment" then some lamb Shawarma ;)

I like Jimmy Johns as far as chain shops go.

Do tortas count? Tios in north Bryan is really good, better with a dos x.

Best rueben in CC, Tx is at Bibeaus on Baldwin. Best Reuben in Bryan/cs is at My Favorite Sandwich Shoppe

If you like gyros the best ones in Texas are down in CC. The shawarma isn't as good as the gyros here unless someone makes it at their house.

I didn't intend on hijacking. A sandwich is on bread and pita is simply un-risen bread, correct?

Hard to beat a Monte Cristo from Cheddar's.

Also, a turkey mornay from Murray's in Midland, TX is the bomb.
